He hardly remembers his family... For a couple reasons. It's not just because of the time that has passed. He remembers his fellow vigilantes a little more clearly. He will get flashes of memory from his life before The Hole, but those are still vague when it comes to other people.
Also... This was a dream. Dreams are weird. This one didn't tap every bit of memory he had.
As far as the battle: oh, he remembers much more. He still remembers Safyr's lesson and everything. The nightmare just didn't include it.

No, no, he remembers it all. The nightmare just didn't cover it all... In my experience, dreams and nightmares are rather chaotic, and they barely reflect reality with any sort of reliability.
