It appears that my beloved tablet has perished unto death and died like a dog!

Broken tablets stink.

Quite the contrary! That's an important historical record, documenting the first time that representatives of three different societies actually sat down at one table for a peaceful supper.
They broke bread together, rather than fighting.
Unleavened bread, of course.
It was the Rosetta Scone.
(Deposits some dough in the Pun Jar... it's the yeast I could do.)

Love it!

There's a baker out there with a sense of humor as twisted and punnish as mine! That's surprisingly reassuring (to me, that is... possibly horrifying to All Right-Thinking People Everywhere).

...and then there's the Scone of Stone, the traditional place of coronation of Dwarf kings.

How about some Bread Sea Scrolls?

I like those, too!
Although, I do notice a bit of an error in the baked version of the Rosetta Scone. The real Stone has hieroglyphic above Demotic above Greek. The Scone has hieroglyphic above Greek above Demotic.
I guess that means it's really an upside-down cake.

What tablet did you have? I'm thinking on getting one and would appreciate advice from someone I trust on these sorts of things...

It's a Hisense Sero 7 Pro - which was available from WalMart.
As to which to buy - i'd have to do a lot of research if i were buying one right now, myself, because i don't really have any idea what's out there these days.

The main thing I have found when shopping for things like PCs and 'smart'phones and tablets, is to at least make sure you get something with more than a single processor in it.
(Nowadays you'd be hard pressed to find a single-core PC, but I rehab and return to duty quite a few older units.)
My cell has a single core and it's being expected to do more than it's easily capable of doing.

Eight-core tablets are common.

If you're on the Android side of the fence, and somewhat of a techie, I'd recommend picking a device from
this list.
(You'll note that many devices on the list have cell-carrier-specific entries. It is not an accident. The carriers like to demand carrier-specific versions of devices. Verizon in particular is somewhat hostile to the the techie community.)
That list is the easiest stuff to install the CyanogenMod version of Android on.
If you're a serious techie, and can do more of the prep and install work yourself, you might prefer
this list or even
this list. However you need to do some advance work to screen out carrier-specific issues.
Why do you want CyanogenMod (or some other "custom rom")? Because different manufacturers - and different devices from the same manufacturer - handle expanded storage (SD cards, USB attached devices) differently and some do it badly. It's really nice for all your devices to treat such things the same way and do it well. Plus Google has made a few bad decisions that the techie-Android-user community promptly rejected, such as forcing each thing on the SD card to belong to a specific application and be inaccessible to any other applications you might download. And then there's bloatware that the vendors load on... stuff that will typically appeal to less than 10% of their customers, but can't be removed by the average user.

Anything after JellyBean is an abhomination in the sight of God.
JellyBean is marginally tolerable.
