A Very Wapsi Road Trip (Image Intensive)
WARNING: Image intensive Thread!
So, you ask, what exactly did I do for my vacation?
Why, I took a road trip. To Uptown Minneapolis.
Does this skyline look familiar to anyone?
So - the first thing I did after getting off the Interstate was to go to the corner of 19th and Stevens. I had to go around the block, but I found it:
Alas, the door leads to - apartments. The old hospital building has been turned into "retro" apartments. This is the front door:
Just a few blocks down from here is the intersection that we saw Monica crossing after the Calendar Machine incident.
And here, we have the lion in front of the Minneapolis Institute of Art (No, it's not the MHS - that's over on the campus of the U of M). I didn't see any little gods of alcohol running around, or any wild shadows. There were a lot of kids, though; the Children's Theater is attached to the MIA on the east side.
NOTE: It does get extremely bright from that perspective during the day, hence the prism effect of the photo. (Sue me, it was my iPad's camera.)
Monica was seen walking down these steps after complaining her boss lied to her about being in a "non-social" position. The stairs are blocked off, as the entrance is now on the east side of the building.
More to come...

Part two: As I was driving down to the Uptown area, I happened to catch this. Is this where Jacqui's studio originally was?
EDIT: This was the corner of East 26th Street and 1st Avenue South.
Down on Lake, half a block from Hennepin, is the Lunds Marketplace. And on the one side of the entrance is... Caribou Coffee.
As I said elsewhere, I had a Caramel High-Rise. The barista didn't look like she was a satyr, though.
I did manage to get my car down the alley between Lunds and Chino Latino's... This doesn't look like the entrance to a library to me:
More coming...

Lacking the opportunity to do my own Road Trip right now, your photos are the next best thing. Thanks very much indeed!

Last one for a bit:
I know that we biatch that M and Shel aren't the "main characters" anymore - but then again, if we didn't have anything to biatch about, we'd probably biatch about that...
Here's the front of Stella's Fish Cafe and Prestige Oyster Bar, on Lake and Girard - approximately where Monica and Shelly "landed":
Stella's is located on a corner; this is the actual sign for the place, on Lake:
Over on Hennepin and Lake is the Calhoun Square sign - which we've also seen in the strip:
This is a place called Parents Autocare, over on 25th and Lyndale. I didn't see a Camaro parked out front, so I don't think it was Shelly's dad's shop.
I have some more photos I took on my "real" camera (these were all off my iPad); I'll be adding those later.

Re: A Very Wapsi Road Trip (Image Intensive)
Ooops. I just noticed I didn't blur out that license plate on the door photo.
(EDIT: Took care of it in the update.)
Anyways - part five, and this is the good part...
I parked the car and decided to take some stairs down to the 33rd Street Beach on Lake Calhoun. These stairs look familiar?
The bike path wasn't busy, though there were a few people out walking their dogs. No box terriers, though.
A photo of the Lake, looking towards the southwest.
Sorry, Lifeguard Not On Duty. At least the boat isn't snow covered:
This bench looks familiar, for some reason:
I hope you all enjoyed the photo tour! There was one other part to this "trip" that I didn't do - a trip down to the IKEA Store by MOA - because of time issues. It's about a three-hour-plus drive from my home to Minneapolis, and I didn't want to spend all day there.

By the way: 2916 Hennepin is the back door of Chino Latino's. I just happened to luck out on taking that picture.

Nice. The only way to top this would be to hire some models to recreate actual shots of the strip.

Who would we get for Monica and Atsali? They're both nigh-impossible body shapes to find, let alone convince to let photos of themselves go on the Internet...
I wonder if any of the Wapsi Girls from that Wapsi Girl Project are a good match...

I could do the older Neil- my eldest daughter Rebekah looks amazingly like Shelly and is the right age. And I have a niece who looks very much like pre-puberty Atsali... but that won't last long. Miss Annie would have to loose considerable weight, but her facial shape and such is remarkably similar to that of Phix. She is also remarkably tall for a female... and has the attitude down to an art form.

Hm. I think I found something I could add for my next Minneapolis road trip...
Punch Pizza Lake Calhoun
3226 W Lake St
Minneapolis, MN 55416
It's northwest of Lake Calhoun, in the shopping center I had (at one time) believed to be where Tina's shop was located.

A minor edit: This was actually taken at the corner of East 26th and 1st Avenue South. The place is called "Yess Yoga".

Boy, I need to update the image links in here.
...Or, maybe, since I have a day of vacation left, and it's not supposed to be TERRIBLY cold, I could do a road trip to Minneapolis?

Re: A Very Wapsi Road Trip (Image Intensive)
Sleep won out over travel. And, as it turns out, the rising temps would not have made it an ideal run, anyways. There were flurries coming down intermittently as I drove around the Central Wisconsin area today doing some errands.
I'm going to fix the linkys up thread because FB is being dumb about how long you can connect to 'em.
