I do wonder if this Jacob is nothing more than a feint.

He is real enough that he had an effect on Atsali.

There's a bit of that. The eighth-lidded eyes actually say a lot of things. Well-crafted snapshot of an evolving friendship.

Atsali's clip-on modesty camisole is a nice touch.

Doesn't mean he isn't a red herring.

I mean that Mr. Taylor has had plenty of opportunity to give us a glimpse of this guy, yet he remains unseen--merely referred to. At the same time, we are given three successive arclets that show Atsali and Nadette bonding, and Nadette becoming more and more smitten. We have Atsali trying really hard to be worthy of this Jacob-cypher, and are shown repeatedly that Nadette wants her just the way she is.

True, Nadette could be being set up here for a big fall. Mr. Taylor can be very rough with his characters, and he doesn't seem to make exceptions for the young ones. But from all we have been shown and told, it seems just as likely, if not moreso, that he's setting the stage for some kind of strong relationship between the siren and the seer. (Or, to combine the two scenarios, this might be Nadette's momentary downfall in order to make a later success more satisfying.)

The likes of you and I will have to wait and see. I just have the feeling that this Jacob is either a red herring or a Living MacGuffin.

There is part of an old Eddie Murphy routine thats revolves around him as a little kid sing-songing;

"I got some Icccce Cream, I got some Icccce Cream...".

Thats what I heard Nadette singing to herself, internal soto-voice like...

Yea, Nadette has that "Look what I got!" thing going on... but were we not privy to the previous scenarios, would we even catch or think that?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who took note of the Seer's face in this drawing. As I mentioned in the eBay subforum (before I even came here, as it happens):

Not sure if they do, but if you Google "tilt", the page displays at an angle.

As always, I see little one-shot portraits like this as Amanda doing a photo shoot for the various members of the cast - partially for their enjoyment, partially for the free publicity that it brings as it adds to her portfolio.

Though I'm not sure the PB&S one is one of her "public" ones...
