The Hero's Journey

The Hero's Journey as a plot structure has come up several times in these fora. Over at Io9.com, they have a post with a great graphic listing the elements of the journey as described by Joseph Campbell, and ranking various popular stories against those points.
The comments are good, too.
Keep in mind Campbell wasn't trying to deconstruct the entirety of myth and fable, but document the common themes and structures that humanity uses to tell tales. Some people have said there are only Seven or Eight basic story plots in the world -- well, there are only 5 or 8 notes in an Octave (depends on whose scale you're using). So how much music is there?
