Snow and ice and oh my.

The very real possibility exists that we may lose power tonight/tomorrow.

We are currently experiencing the Dreaded North Georgia Freezing Rain.

Accumulations of ice up to half an inch - or more - are forecast.

That's enough to bring down power lines (well, tree branches).

View out of the garage, just after 2AM - the snow had already changed over to sleet/freezing rain.

So, about 0400 or 0500 it shifted from ice/snow mix to snow. As of 0900, this was the result:

A rather larger version of the image below is available here.

Current temp is about 29 or 30 F

Oh yeah -- it's the branches that bring down the power lines if the right-of-ways haven't been maintained. A few years back here in Penna we had a nice ice storm just before Christmas and lost power for three days -- some up to six days. First hard ice storm in a long time, so people bitched like mad. And -- the local power company reminded everyone about how the Greenie types were whining about tree trimming that stopped them from maintaining line clearance the past 5 years. Response? Go NIMBY yourselves somewhere else, jerks -- we want power back. The next six months had tree crews everywhere and the next three ice storms went just fine.

They were out trimming the branches yesterday morning (or was it the day before?) before the storm hit....

Blame the NSA. It's part of Operation Precip, known as "No raindrop falls un-noticed". They're bugging the very water molecules.

Fortunately, anger, outrage, and discussion by American citizens will soon put a stop to this.

Even now, folks throughout the Atlantic seaboard are saying "We're all Snowden".

I've been buried since January. I can barely keep a car's width clear before it's smothered me again. If one more adult teases me with "Do you want to build a Snowman?" I'll hurt them. My son has cabin fever, and is very upset that he cannot build one. It's either been too cold, or the snow has been too dry and powdery. We finally got it where it's warm enough and the right snow for building one, then they are calling for liquid precipitation in two days. Murphy and Mother Nature can go stuff it!

I noticed a rather substantial population of snowmen appearing around this area in recent weeks. This prompted me to create a giant snowtarantula perched atop a nearby hill, to hunt down the snowmen and keep their population in check. It is important to maintain a proper ecological balance, after all.
