I had a somewhat similar thing occur as the result of an allergic reaction (to Georgio perfume) some years ago... but it did hurt like hell, and in addition to my vision going wonky, I developed a case of short-term aphasia. Couldn't speak worth a darned... couldn't even form the words. Really frightening!
I had that happen to me and when I called my doctor he made me get a ride to see him as fast as possible. If I didn't have someone to drive me, he was going to send and ambulance. Turned out I had Bell's Palsey, inflammation of the nerves that operate the facial muscles. Steroids and B12 chased it away after 3-4 weeks. And if you're a telephone operator like me, you DON'T want to sound like that. It eventually went away - but I still have memory issues and 'loose the right words' sometimes.
