Ok... Well, I'll put it on the back burner for now. The bigger, more canon-safe edit is slowly taking shape in he back of my mind. I'll post it here first when it hits me, and see what you lot think.
The smaller, faster edit is basically deleting "Dark Matter" from the equation and just having John use Dark Energy. The risk inherent in this is I can easily see Paul using Dark Energy in a similar manner as he has used Dark Matter (Dark Matter = Akashic Record).
The big one is more... Complicated. Downright spacey-wacey. But that can wait.

Have I mentioned lately how much I wish I could think like Brandi?

I think anyone who thinks a little like her just wants to think more like her. The curse of the academic mind: by he more we know, the more we realize we don't know.

I make my triumphant return!
...
At least, I hope it's triumphant.

I may be getting ahead of myself.
Anyway... Hope you guys weren't too irritated by the long gap. I really don't like dealing with pitchforks and torches.

Thank you, DinkyInky, for that
frightening mix!
Remember kids, Dinky is what you call a professional. She does this for a living. Don't try this at home!

Indeed!

And especially, don't try the version which uses Carolina Reaper peppers (Ghost peppers have been surpassed, among the mega-Scoville varieties).

An enhanced version will appear later, involving Dinky's Thai Fire, Nectar, and the latest in Thermonuclear Pepper technology.
And yes. I just said Nectar. With the capital N.

So I had an IRL conversation with a friend about the latest chapter. I thought it might be a good idea to paraphrase it and put it here:
Friend: "I wouldn't have thought of Monica as seeming unsure of herself... but there is some precedent..."
Glytch: "It's underlying. She has a very powerful Doubt demon, so even if she is incalculably powerful, she doesn't think so at her core."
Friend: "Which is true... but it's funny how even knowing that about her, I still think she's exceedingly confident."
Glytch: "Hook, Line, and Sinker... She puts out excessive signals of confidence and power to compensate for her true lack of confidence and perceived lack of power."
So yeah. That's why I wrote M the way I did.

Hey guys. Again, I apologize for the atrocious delay. IRL kinda... well, it's pretty hectic. I'm trying to get a couple of new jobs (1 full-time and 1 part-time) and move out of my dad's place... which means I'll be moving about three hours south of Chicago because everything is stupidly expensive up here.
Anyway, I got two pretty good-sized chunks written. Let me know what you think.
One more thing: Can anyone think of any other properly evil gods or pantheons? I want to make sure I cover my bases, but a lot of religions have... kind of a Orange/Blue Morality compared to modern perceptions... And I'm not really well versed in many religions. Ancient Greek is kind of my specialty, and I'm not even very knowledgeable of most of the minor characters in that. Ancient Roman comes in at a close second, mainly because it's just Ancient Greek with different names. After that, I guess I know a little bit about the Old and New Testament... but I couldn't hold a candle to some of you other writers (Sarge and jwhouk, I'm looking at you). Ancient Egyptian comes in a distant fourth.
If not, I can still... "flow"... with what I have now and just make vague references to other pantheons. The set I have ready to go is already big enough to-
Ah. Better shut up now.
*walks away, whistling innocently*

AUTHOR's NOTES
I promise, I didn't notice the similarities to Neil or Dragonball Z until I wrote this out! Please, wait before you start throwing rocks at me!
...
Ok. So. 1) I'm not out to one-up people. This is just the character that popped into my head. No, he's not OP because Yes, he is vulnerable to exhaustion and cold, and yes, I know that's a cliche.
2) he's not "Mary Sue-ified" Neil because Neil lived life for some two-thousand years. John just hung out in a hole trying to learn how not to break the world. He's going to have about the same emotional makeup of the John that went into the hole, just with more control added. Not a whole lot wiser, not a whole lot more insightful. Yeah, the paranormal history and society lessons brought him up to speed, but not much else.
3) I totally forgot about that timey-wimey training room in Dragonball Z until just now. seriously.

"The neutron stars provided plenty of matter, inertia, and angular momentum to the system to keep the ring singularity stable and the spacetime deformations intact for several more millennia, assuming nothing else tampers with them again."
"And my father's right cerebral cortex?"
"Aside from a slight spike in activity when it sensed shifts in the local flow of time, it remains undisturbed. No related activity was detected in the rest of his brain or body."
"Good... That is always of utmost importance. How goes the young salamander's training?" Hades yawned, feigning boredom.
"He is making progress... Though he will be here for a long time if he keeps at this pace."
"Good... I don't want to wait too long to call in my favor..."
Dun dun duuuuuuunnnnnnn!
Hah, exactly! This story and
Doing It Right are going to be closely entwined for a while, and since I had Monica come to the realization that Hades wasn't done with John over in that story, I figured I'd tie it in here...

Y'know, when I first started Purpose, it was intended to be a solo effort. Then the "Flow" of words just... Stopped.
It was like a river quite suddenly turned into a frozen swamp.
Then along comes all of the other authors and they start making this epic tale, and suck me into it by commissioning Glytch to decode a hard drive. Suddenly the current started to Flow again, and now the story I originally set out to write is forever changed.
I'm quite happy with how things turned out.
