Y'allright, there?
She just gets all excited over discussions of botanical taxonomy classification levels. But then again, who doesn't?
I don't, but that's because I don't get excited by much.

Or by the fact these look like blossoms from Korea.

Check out Mungunghwa, it's not a Don Martin noise! :)

Ooohhhh. I thought she was just making a heartfelt noise.

Kinda like when Ron poked at some pudding in HP:GoF, asked what it was, Hermione answered "bulliobase" (or whatever) and he said "Bless you"

:P

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mugunghwa on top of all that there is the Google find that it's the Korean National Flower to boot...

And you can make a drink from it... ;])

(edit)- I was replying based on the Third page, looks like Hanstoons beat me to it...

I've also heard that they (probably only certain varieties) can be smoked for a hallucinogenic effect. Not that I've ever been brave/stupid/crazy enough to try, though.

Is that true?

I'm half Korean, and Mother always used to sing Aegukga and Arirang when I was little. She also used to calligraphy/paint them with pretty sayings when I was a child, and fold paper mungunghwa blossoms and make fireplace matchstick pinwheels. It's one of a scant few happy memories I have of her, so I treasure any reminder of them.

************

I also know quite a bit regarding food/medicinal/amusing properties of them.

A tisane made of the blossoms is a common treatment for dysentery and other stomach/gastrointestinal/urinary tract ailments.

Blossoms in the bath for clearing congestion.

If you put milk into said tisane, it curdles the milk(the curds are tasty with Malt o meal or Summer porridge).

Blend the blossoms with Butterfly pea flower tea and it turns from cobalt/indigo blue to vibrant red.

It's wonderful for reducing stress levels as a tisane.

Mix chopped blossoms with vinegar and put the petals on your nails for a few hours, and they will be dyed a vibrant pink...at least they did when Mother did it.

Pregnant women shouldn't eat or drink any type of hibiscus, but after birth, it's good for aiding in milk production and preventing common infections that occur in women after childbirth.

Thx. It's mostly melted again, for now, but I have a few other artsy snow pix coming. Look for a standalone Snow Pix thread...)

Don't blame you. It's been plenty wet down here in the south SF Bay area, and I know it's been even wetter up some distance north.

I spent a lot of this weekend over at a friend's house, working on a balky amateur-radio repeater system. His place is down in a gully in the hills - he has a small seasonal stream flowing right by his house - and the driveway down from the private road is dirt and has a lot of erosion. I was very glad having all-wheel drive on my Subaru - he said he almost didn't make it back up the driveway yesterday due to all of the slippery mud. As it was, my shoes ended up pretty well soaked, getting back and forth to/from the car.

That's normal in western Washington/Oregon and, I suspect, parts of northwestern California.

That's only true for those unfortunate individuals who cannot manage to convert their pharyngeal arches back into functioning gill slits.

Nah, I only have one meal per day. It just happens to last from midnight to a little past 11:59 pm.
