A big gripe of mine also. But his voice was returned in the DVDs...

Sort of like the of the original anime used to create "Star Blazers" - so much had to be cut for the US version that they had to create that annoying damn robot to add in to pad scenes back to minimum running time.

And the violence? There's a sequence where, in the US version, Wildstar and that big Marine sergeant lead a squad into battle - and the next time we see them, there's just Wildstar and the Sarge - and for the rest of that scene there's a good sized obviously redrawn patch on Wildstar's shoulder.

I mean, they'd done such a poor job covering up a wound and blood that it was almost as obvious as the pixelated genitalia in hentai

Yeah, because 'cartoons are for kids' they did a lot of silly stuff to some of the imports. The worst of the lot, IMHO, was 'Battle of the Planets', the Amercanizaion of "Science Ninja Team Gatchaman' where they would explain the random bodies flying about from the explosions as 'we've evacuated the entire city and replaced everyone with robots!'. And the most annoying of all add ons, 7-Zark-7...Ugh.

I have the first four series of the show on DVD, in their original version. Every American I've shown them to has been rather more bemused than amused by them. Perhaps there is a valid rational behind changing them?

Do they find Red Dwarf, 'Allo 'Allo, and others hilarious, or do they go: "heh, yeah, um. ok? i think?"... did you show them to people that are already fans of other British shows? you may be showing them to people that aren't fans of British style humor...

I've honestly never understood the 'cartoons are just for kids sentiment'. But even less logical than that is the 'let's cancel this show because it's popular with the wrong demographic'. Where the “wrong demographic" is usually girls or teenage girls.
Examples include ; Symbionic Titan, Young Justice, the Thundercats reboot, and pretty much any other show Cartoon Network wildly changed the scheduling of to doom its ratings.

Because 'Oh no! Girls like this thing that we meant for boys and it has more than a 50% female audience.'

That's no more baffling than "Who cares how popular it is, let's cap it at 65 episodes."

It's not the producers or the network that makes that decision - it's the sponsors.

If the sponsors want the young male demographic - if, perhaps, that's their main market, with little or no skew toward girls, they're not gonna be happy with a series that skews heavily away from the young male market and toward the female demo.

For that matter, if the primary sponsor markets to the 18-to-25 demographic, they're not gonna behappy to see the show's audience skewingolder.
