The Spirit answered not, but pointed downward with its hand.
"You are about to show us shadows of the things that have not happened, but will happen in the time before us," Sarge pursued. "Is that so, Spirit?"
The upper portion of the garment was contracted for an instant in its folds, as if the Spirit had inclined its head. That was the only answer he received.
Forbiddingly Sarge looks towards the other kindred souls he senses near but unseen, "welcome to our nightmare."
The darkness fell away, and Sarge found himself amongst the others in a coffee shop, one that he had seen but never visited. The young man at the counter was of a nervouse constitution, small but not quite frail. Confronting him was a lass of equal age, slender yet extravegantly endowed, who seemed to be in conversation with him... and yet, the Sarge could not hear or understand what was said-
"Spirit!" he quailed, "Why do you tease and vex me so? I wish, as do the others, only to know that which is to occur. Such is only a normal quest to those of us who are mortal! I seek no offering beyond what I see as a normal progression of the tale, nor do I wish to curry special favor therin- yet as you KNOW that which is to be, why parade slivers thereof like a cheap preview? How have I wrong you to be treated thusly?"
The specter said nothing, but held it's hand (if indeed hand there be) pointed at the silent conversation still in progress.
