When new recruits enlist in the military, they're usually soon taught how to march around in formation. They never actually march around in formation in battle any more, but the training at least gets them used to the idea of working together as a unit. They take the lesson from the training that isn't really practical and make use of it for in later times.

Having paranormals practice to stay in human form and human action while swimming would be good training for them, even if they never go near water again. It will give them practice at maintaining their image in other difficult or distracting times. They can take the self-discipline that they learn and employ it in other situations.

And add to that the possibility that they might be able to get some assistance from the MiB and/or a paranormal friendly/knowledgeable doc who is aware that Atsali's growth in that region is probably maxed out...I'd think that there is a pretty decent chance she could get surgery at her age. Do I think she should? No. She should wait until she's more comfortable with herself and the way she is naturally before deciding whether or not it is worth it to modify her body (i.e. the emotional strain of "never" finding things that fit "just right" without paying for tailoring, the stress of high expenses associated with buying special-made garments, and/or any potential medical strain on her body since she's so very top heavy). That's a large part of why I think that reduction (or augmentation) surgeries aren't a good idea for teens. They tend to make decisions based on how they're feeling in the moment instead of waiting to figure out if being "different" actually makes them happy.

I agree. In my opinion, being different is much better than being just like everyone else. It allows us to be proud, to stand out. Sure, there's the "nail that sticks out gets hammered" saying...

But the tallest trees in the rainforest get the most sun. Oddballs get hammered, but all the extra sun usually more than makes up for that.

Before making decisions like this, one should seriously consider whether or not the extra sun pays for the extra hammering.

...did all that make sense? Or did I push those metaphors too far?
