You've missed the point i was making - Paul may be keeping the backgrounds (and dates mentioned in the story) consistent with the Real World while telling a story that is not in synch with the real world.
That is, while it's been a week or less in Wapsi Story Time , in the Real World the events are happening and the background setting has matched that.
As i said, i remember a Marvel story (Spider-Man, i think) whose internal action took less than a week - maybe only one or two days - that featured issues that mentioned/involved thr Fourth of July, Halloween, Christmas and New Year's Eve.
Paul is certainly doing some of that - how many winters has the cast been through vs. the number of years they have actually experienced?
The number of winters would be hard to say without doing a careful archive scouring and count--which is not something I have time for at the moment.
And I'm not thoroughly convinced that Paul uses Marvel Time as a model. Can you point to any other solid reference, (outside of holiday one-panel fillers, obviously) that shows his elapsed time and calendar events not synching up? If there is anything, it should be around those holidays that the Wapsi characters were shown to observe in-continuity, like Saint Patrick's Day.
It would be interesting to know how many years the run of WS is supposed to cover. We know that Monica is (or recently was) 31 years old. Do we have any idea of her age at the time of the strip's beginning?

Also, the minicabbage is more commonly spelled "Brussels sprouts" rather than "Brussel sprouts". I don't think I've ever heard it used as a curse before, although many children do curse it.

I think Atsali's use of Brussel Sprouts is simply a euphemism for B.S.!

I didn't say Paul is running on Marvel Time, just that it seems highly possible.
The characters have experienced winter every year since the comic began, as i recall.
If the comic runs one-to-one (or anywhere fairly close to it) Monica was about sixteen when the comic began fifteen years ago.

Woah. Duuude. Just had my mind blown with timey-wimey.
I guess I'm used to eternal comic characters. (like Dagwood, and Garfield, and that Foxtrot family)
Of course, Monica
is eternal now, what with being the Jaguar Girl and a Sub-Titan and whatnot. The whole Pheonix blood resurrection dealie.

But she wasn't sixteen, is my point. She was already a curator at the museum, which means mid-twenties, minimum. (I can't recall if she has a PhD.)
So the fifteen years it's been for us are probably more like five or six for the characters.

Precisely. Mind = blown due to timey-wimey. Of course she wasn't sixteen. She was a regular bar patron in a flashback that portrayed events from before the comic started (when Monica met Shelly). Darren seems to be a pretty responsible guy, I doubt he would have let Monica drink underage at his establishment.
(yes, I know, you can technically go to a bar under 21 and not drink booze, but c'mon, unless you're there as a designated driver or there to watch all the funny drunk idiots, you're there for the booze)

Well, no. I'm fairly certain it's been mentioned that Monica is actually in her early 30's(rocking the body of a 28-29 year old of course). When the comic began she could drink, so at LEAST 21.

Not everywhere. I was booted from bars for being under 21, even though I had no intention of imbibing. The law varies by municipality.

I gotta watch that movie again, I seem to have forgotten about 90% of it, judging by how often I miss the references.
Man, I have a big backlog. I've got a whole bunch of games to play, movies to watch, books to read... Keeping up with modern culture can quickly turn into a chore.

This is in ref to 'cooked sushi', and while there are some items that are cooked (like eel), mostly Sushi is known for not being so.
