The discussion about how big the anti-matter bomb is has a lot to do with the method of application.
A very tiny amount applied directly to the target would be as effective as any mass application at a distance.
Perhaps more so, since it would give the target no chance to react.

Ooh, an antimatter projector? That'd be a very nasty twist on a Claymore.

Given that the matter/antimatter reaction is effectively instantaneous, and that even in space there's SOME matter present, i'd say that that is even less practical a weapon than the Atomic Hand Grenade that wipes out everything within fifty yards but you can only throw it thirty yards...Gavote wrote:Ooh, an antimatter projector? Actually it would be effective as a weapon. Since the small amounts, a few molecules at best for now have to be help in a magnetic field to keep them from contacting any matter you just hold the field till its at the target. A nice antimatter warhead of a half kilo or so with a magnetic field generator of a couple of pounds would be substantially smaller than the current atomics we have. given current levels of technology though i would suggest using them as strictly a gravity type bomb since the thrust of a missile could result in enough force to overcome the field resulting in a less than desirable outcome.

um... you forgot about the thrust of the JET getting it TO the target... you don't think it will have a free and clear shot do you? I'd imagine that the aircraft will have to do some sort of high-G maneuvering to avoid enemy missiles and other assorted anti-aircraft fire... thus negating your advantage of a plain bomb versus a missile, and if they can build a round that can withstand the accelerations involved in dog-fighting, then they can just beef it up a bit more and put it in a missile in the first place and totally avoid the problem.oldmanmickey wrote:Actually it would be effective as a weapon. The best way to use an anti-matter weapon as a bomb in the Wapsiverse is to simply let a teleporter send it, then it is simply Poit and Click.

Something I noticed when updating the Omnibus: the Etetheitians believed the "Elder Gods" needed to be prevented from reaching Earth, and the only two options they thought would work were the Chimera or the World Grid.
1. Why were these people so fearful of the Elder Gods?
2. Why were the two options (essentially nukes or self-destruction) perceived as the only options?
3. Was there a third option?

That is too bad. Maybe when he wakes up and makes all of mankind insane.
