Al better never try that... :)

However, that feeling is quite mutual - from a sneaky old human to the apex predator of apex predators - with exquisite manners and sensibilities.

As an individual Al fears very little - mostly involving lumps of plutonium in arrays - But sincere, honest respect? Bags of it for most everyone and every kind of person he meets. Reporters...not so much.

Sphinxes? One in particular is fair game for his sense of humor...still highly respected, though. Heck, everyone has to have a beloved bête noire - or if you prefer the Loyal Opposition.

Oh, do have mercy on the lad. It's Monday, after all. He probably just hasn't had time for enough sips from that bottle of okra-flavored Diet Dr. Pepper, or whatever it was that he favors so.
Vanilla Coke! And I'm only having my third can today just now!
I'm still mentally spluttering at the notion that I like okra-flavored DIET Dr. Pepper. Honestly. What a hideous thing to suggest. :P

AN: Al, yer a scream! Thanks for the witty banter.

*****************************

"I told you I had no chance against that sexy beast, turbo or no turbo," Sterling said to Cinnamon as they pulled in to see Al, smirking in his best, "Lord of the Manor" pose.

“Ladies, I was about to go in for a nap – I assumed you had decided to stop for tea and cakes at a roadside shop.” Al said, in his most toffee-nosed upper-crust British accent.

“Tea and cakes indeed. If we had stopped dear sir, it would have been for pints and sausage rolls – or similar refreshments. Tea and cakes indeed!”

Both of them broke down laughing, and Cinnamon was having serious issues with breath control.

"Well, let's go get you set up, and let me give your lovely wife a spa day...I still need to make up for that fright I gave her on our first meeting."

"What about me?" said Al, impishly.

"What about you, I let you win, wasn't that enough?" Sterling said cheekily, watching Al sputtering before regaining his composure.

“Let me win indeed…American upstart….indeed….”

"Seriously though, how's it feel to fly?" she queried, grinning madly. "I bet you'd give that upstart Hamilton a run for his money!"

“One doesn’t wish to brag, of course, but this wonderful mount was nowhere near its limits – though I might have been had the local gendarmes chosen to make an issue of my traveling at the speed I was. I must confess, though that Red surprised me. I knew she was powerful – but the sheer road-holding was truly impressive for her design.”

“You should have put her up on a lift – suspension mods are a sight to behold. Koni and Bilstein front and back.”

With the gearhead moment out of the way, Sterling’s demeanor changed. From calm, confident and cool she shifted to aggressive, manic and not-exactly-borderline batshit crazy.

"Well Mistah 'A', you need ta quit stalling, we girls have a long day of doing nothin', and daylights burning! I really don't want to have ta deal with old bat-face, so hurry up and take us to Red!" Sterling said, calmly making faces at Al, doing an impeccable impression of a certain Clown Prince's girlfriend.

Cinnamon, on the other hand, was trying to catch her breath from laughing too hard.

"Oh. *Heheh* My. *Hahah* God. *Hahahahaaa! Snort* Al. Momma is going to have a blast. She's a scream! *giggle*

"Har-har. You're too funny." Al said, voice dripping with sarcasm. “You forgot your sledgehammer in the trunk, dearie.” He then grinned, enjoying the show as much as Cinnamon.

“Let us be off, ladies – you to the spa, and me to the unmitigated Hades of this insane asylum.” With a grand gesture, he waved them toward the house, reminding himself to hide the keys of the Vanquish until Sterling was safely out of range.

Heh :D

"Hideous" was just what I was aiming for. Even without the okra, that's a nasty beverage.

Although, reality could be stranger than fiction. The local Five Guys has one of the fancy new "choose a sofa and then add your preferred flavoring combo to it" machines. I haven't seen a gumbo-flavor option on it, but I can't swear that there isn't one.

True, and I commend your efforts to defend that awesome drink. I just wish I could have ribbed him too. Ah well. I shall lie in wait.

"Damn you, Autocorrect!".

Or, in this case, Android slide-to-spell. Sometimes the word is correct when I finish sweeping it out, and Android changes it after I look away and go on to the next word.

Edible furniture, though... hmmm. Might be a good market to go into, pending our first contact with sentient interstellar termites... interesting suggestion.

You, sir, are a knave and a scoundrel. Or you simply haven't encountered true Dr. Pepper, brewed at the plant in Dublin, TX with pure cane sugar instead of corn syrup.

You had best not utter those words 'round these parts. Them's fightin' words. The one thing the Aggies and the Longhorns ever could agree on was that Dr. Pepper is the nectar of the gods made manifest. For that matter, most of the folks up in Baylor agreed, and getting those fellahs to say that is somethin', considering it's one of the biggest Southern Baptist seminaries in the nation.

The key to "nasty" was my use of the word "diet". There are some beverages which can be made with a no-cal sweetener and still taste just fine. Dr Pepper is (in my opinion) not one of them. The samples of Diet Dr Pepper I had were distinctly bitter... not a good match to the rest of the flavoring. It really tasted "off".

Maybe if it were made with Stevia instead...

Ahh, in that case, all is forgiven. Diet ANYTHING is bad. Maybe use Splenda instead, it might work out right.

This Yankee will fightcha...

I prefer cane sugar Vanilla Coke to Yes...even yer sainted Dublin Dr., though real Vanilla Coke outside of those automat sodajerk machines is hard to find outside of Australia...not for lack of me whining monthly to Coca-cola corp.

Stevia makes the D.P. too sweet Dave. Splenda is about as "diet" as we go, and my son prefers the Vanilla Coke Zero with Splenda. We tried soda with stevia, and well, Stevia in Coca-Cola reminds me of...New Coke.

Try generic diet chocolate soda . . . a friend's wife got some by mistake because it was in with the regular root beer . . . the explosion (when someone unknowingly tasted it) was impressive.

We expended the other five cans as targets.

Where the hate are you finding it? I haven't seen it in two decades. The Chocolate Cherry diet was awesome with a half jigger of Bushmills Black Bush Irish Whiskey, a splash of Creme de Cacao, and a splash of Maraschino liqueur. I used to crank out those in the bar back home to all these twiggy types wanting a "light drink". Yeah, I know...I was a stinker. But still, it was a really tasty combination.

How about a shot of chocolate syrup in Diet Dr. Pepper? It would go nicely with the vanilla notes... {he says, whistling inncently...}

Blech! That corn based crap goes down like a lead balloon. If you find a cane sugar based chocolate simple syrup, maybe...but then it does something weird to the overall composition of the drink.
