Re: Castela 2016-09-16
The term "cold" is relative in this case. "Regular" fusion has a temperature roughly the same as the sun. We can feel the heat from the sun at 93 million miles, so even contained in a magnetic bottle you wouldn't want to be closer than the same continent, and I would find that to be too close. "Cold fusion" takes place at temperatures that could be contained by conventional building materials. There is a version of "cold" fusion that takes place at slightly warmer than standard room temperatures, but it doesn't even break even on energy in/out and the prep work is a pain and doesn't last more than a week before the device can no longer start fusion.FreeFlier wrote:Doesn't look all that cold to me . . .

I think it's para-biology, and Fate, rather than technology per se.Sgt. Howard wrote:Castela is demonstrating her cold fusion yo-yo... Glytch, would you explain the technology here?
Castela is being groomed to become a Blackthorn goddess... sloe to anger but terrible in Her wrath.

I would walk gin-gerly around her after that comment, lest she start to fizz.Dave wrote:

Methinks her wrath is due to sour grapes... but then I don't listen to the grapevine.Just Old Al wrote:I would walk gin-gerly around her after that comment, lest she start to fizz.Dave wrote:

Castela apparently got
the amazing power of 'zot'
so Paul's latest plotting
is weaving this 'zotting'
into his characters' plot
Near as we all understand
she merely uses her hand
and things that are near
they just disappear
with a flash that your eyes cannot stand

Even if that were the case, that still leaves the 't' and the 's' reversed...TazManiac wrote:(the 'c' must be silent...)

OK, How about a Hybrid/Symbiosis of Atsali & Castela joined together when the need arises?
Yeah, that’s tha ticket.

I was thinking more along the lines of a transporter accident, like Tuvix from Star Trek Voyager.
There is no such thing as a science experiment gone wrong.

Re: Castela 2016-09-16
"Huh?" Glytch looked up from his six-beam destructive-interference-limited-length photon saber with a somewhat blank expression as he looked around at the room, his eyes alighting on the Gryphon School's security camera feed. "Oh, one of those things. Yeah, I gave that to her a few years back." He scratched his head as he forced his brain to switch tracks. "Right. So I've been working with Ubh-310 for a few years now, and at... Uh, some point, can't really remember when... Anyway! I wanted to reverse the concept used in their 'Rabbit' device. Instead of radioactivity being converted into kinetic energy, I flipped it around and used the substances found in the Rabbit to use kinetic energy to, more or less, 'recharge' the nuclear fuel!" Glytch grinned wide, baring more teeth than was truly necessary (he had been hanging out with Prroul and Quichon a little too much, Brandi decided), as he searched through his handwritten notes on his tablet to find the relevant equations and sketches. "It's a bit like a piezoelectric material. In fact, it uses a very similar concept, just applied to quantum mechanics." He showed them a few pages of somewhat messy notes. "It's impossible to get a full recharge out of so little motion as in a yo-yo, but it would be possible in such things as suddenly stopping a freight train or a large plane landing on an aircraft carrier. With the yo-yo, however, I could only get enough kinetic energy to reverse some of the metastable isomer decay in a very, very tiny Vimana cell. The overall effect, of course, causes a small buildup of quick, readily available energy. I hooked it up to some micro-Wardenclyffe arc flashers and got on a bike and pedaled at a gentle pace and I got a really cool light show. So I put it in a Yo-yo and, well, I suck at yo-yos. Never could get the damned things to work. Castela, on the other hand, she has that stuff down pat. So I let her have a shot, and, well, there you go."Sgt. Howard wrote:Castela is demonstrating her cold fusion yo-yo... Glytch, would you explain the technology here?
