First order of business as president- take out my erasure and start working on a few executive disorders... like the whole last eight years' worth. Might not stop at eight. Then I would disassemble the IRS and go to a flat tax. Then I would disassemble the federal reserve and go to private banking with full accountability. Then I would disassemble Obamacare and get the federal government out of medicine. Completely. Then I would disassemble Al Sharpton and go to a taxidermist. Then I would disassemble the EPA and go to Disneyland. I would voluntarily reduce my income, and ask for a special elective bill regarding the income of senators and congrescritters whereby the PUBLIC decides their pay scale based on performance. I would seek term limits for both houses. I would start my own executive disorders-Warrl wrote:I suppose you could be worse than the clowns and crooks getting all the press time...Sgt. 1) any member of house or senate voting against private ownership of firearms, or for mandatory registration, or magazine restrictions, or similar nonsense will loose their secret service protection.
2) 'Gun Free' zones will be abolished. If an armed guard is deemed necessary on campus, the school is free to do so.
3) Chicago will receive an industrial strength enema. Perhaps several.
4) NAFTA will be revoked- there will be tax incentives for jobs created in our borders.
5) the BATF&E will no longer be a federal bureau- it will be a convenience store.
6) Miss Annie (the new first lady) will start the tradition of modeling concealed carry holsters with her .44 magnum Ruger Super Blackhawk.
7) I can't think of anything else because I need a second cup of coffee.

Got my vote to Sarge. First politician in a long time that makes sense.

Could we please not talk politics in the daily comment threads?
Back on the old board {Blank Label?} Paul would have shut this down a ways back.

As long as it doesn't turn into a flame war, is there really any harm to this?AnotherFairportfan wrote:Could we please not talk politics in the daily comment threads?

On a different board (CRFH!!!), any given daily comic thread could turn into a discussion on any subject, ranging from politics, to philosophy, to the various creatures of the animal world, to Creationism VS Evolution, etc. And no one minded. While some had a sharp tong... err... keyboard, there weren't any flame wars over any of it...
It's like an ad for beer in the province of Québec: "La modération a bien meilleur goût."

Re: Come with ya 2016-07-20
I've seen several USENET news groups degenerate from very useful (technical) discussion forums, to brawls where most of the postings are off-topic (and often political/social and downright nasty). I would really hate to see that happen here. Political (and social, and religious) debate can be a slippery slope. Somebody posts their opinion, somebody rebuts, somebody counters (a bit more loudly), somebody re-counters (even more loudly) and before you know it there's a flame war in progress.lake_wrangler wrote:As long as it doesn't turn into a flame war, is there really any harm to this?AnotherFairportfan wrote:Could we please not talk politics in the daily comment threads?

Look at it this way: Paul et al have not only provided us with specific places to discuss the daily Wapsi Square strips, but have provided other places for generalized discussion of the strip/universe, and a general-purpose forum for unrelated discussions.
If people want to talk politics on this board, it would be respectful of Paul's apparent intentions (and the structure that he has set up) to use the "general purpose" Pub forum to do it. Anyone who can post on this board can create a new thread there. Let's use what we've been handed (for free!) in the way it was intended to work. Where there are "topical" posting-and-discussions areas made available to us, let's try to stay on-topic in when posting in those areas.
That's being respectful of Paul. It's being respectful of readers, who (I presume) come to a "daily strip" discussion to read about and discuss the strip of the day. It's respectful of people who don't want to get involved in political wrangling and discussion (Cthulhu knows there's more than enough of that on the Internet these days).
I don't think we can (or even should try) to keep that from happening... but please let's keep it in separate places where it doesn't cause all sorts of collateral damage.
I really don't want to see the strip-discussion areas degenerate, and then get shut down as hopeless or inappropriate or harmful, the way the Comments section on the board was, a few years ago. Yeah, Comments is back, and so far things seem to be going politely enough, but I think that eternal vigilance is the price of polite discourse.
And, I'm so very impressed by the degree of respect that posters in this forum have shown to one another in discussions hereabouts... although it's clear that many of us come from very different political/social backgrounds, and almost certainly will be found to disagree very strongly on certain political issues. Don't want to lose that.

Re: Come with ya 2016-07-20
Segregation of political topics came to bear on my board quite some time ago. I created the "Sketch Gallery" sub-board (named after commenters who swept political talk to Brooke McEldowney's "Pibgorn Sketches" GoComics thread, while he still allowed comments). That allows those not wishing to read political diatribe to simply avoid that board. I'm also pleased to say that the topics on that board have been discussed at an intellectual level, without any attacks on dissenting opinion.

I'll add that any thread that becomes politicised to any extent is one that i will stop reading.
I may, also, quietly put people who really annoy me on "ignore" - something i generally don't like to do.

Bah, just the sort of thing a typical fascist Bolshevik hippy would say, trying to erode our 1st Amendment rights!!!! But yeah, I generally just start skimming whenever the conversation starts getting deeply into politics. Most political debates have no real endings, as they aren't actually heading towards any mutual goal.
