The way I see it, vampires need to drink human blood which replenishes their own circulatory system. Perhaps they are incapable of syntesizing hemoglobin. They also eat other stuff for the calories and nutrients, because blood is kinda worthless in that department.
...
Oh, if it's an age thing, yeah, that would make sense. I probably wouldn't be too presumptuous in saying I'm the youngest person active on the forums.

Are you really? Did you verify that claim against the age list in the
Age and the Wapsi Fan thread?

Dude, I'm the outlier on the young side.

So I've noticed. I just went through the thread, and you were the only one in the 'C' class (youngest class claimed by anyone). Although I did see one in the 'D' class, so you're not as much of an outlier as you may think...

This revelation about Kath's childhood is pretty depressing.

i wish i could find it, but my Google-Fu is weak... somewhere out there is a comic book that is kinda sorta relevant here, with FBI agents raising the alien baby they confiscated from some hick farmers a few hours after they traced the crash and the farmers found the baby in a crashed alien spaceship... IE: Kal-el... i can't find anything about it on the web, but it turns out that as a kid growing up he's being brainwashed into the (at the time) the "right way" of thinking by government agents that are only playing along and "doing their job"... very very Truman-Show esque... and it eventually backfires on them when he finally puts two and two together... i don't see that happening here, but with Sr. Director Oduya (Thup) in charge of her very EXISTENCE... i can guess that Thup was most likely the one responsible for her adoptive parents deaths, all as part of her/it's long-term plan for Lily and Katherine vs the Rest of the Anasazi/Ethethians...
the only other Superman comic that i can find that really comes close is Superman: Red Son, where his ship crashed on a Soviet commune and he got brought up as a Communist instead... both comics are really good.

Actually in my view better than Red Son was the way it was done in the comic movie Justice League: Gods and Monsters. If your into comic movies its one of the better ones. In this time line Supermans mother was still Laura but his father was General Zod. The rocket was found by illegal Mexicans in the US so his childhood was vastly different.

Y'know, I still have trouble sometimes seeing Kath now and original Kath as the same person, it's like a complete 180. Not that I think that's a bad thing, don't worry. :3

Let's see here... this is the girl that...
1) Killed and ate a squirrel that desecrated her plants
2) Served in the Air Force and achieved the rank of CWO(?) what rating I am not sure
3) Rode a mine cart to avoid a dynamite blast
4) Survived a broken nose, re-set a dislocated shoulder, transcribed astrological symbols to obtain a date and place, got shot at at another dig, rode out a nuclear blast inside a golem's belly... the girl we all know was always there, she just didn't know it.
That happens sometimes...

Chief Warrant Officer
Warrant Officers are a rank structure between Enlisted and Commissioned Officers. Currently, the US military uses these ranks for helicopter pilots. All pilots are officers, but helo pilots are drawn from the enlisted core, and are not commissioned (at first). This isn't the only place the rank is used, and the Air Force was phasing out it's use when I was in, 20+ years ago. Technically, they are NCOs, but above a Sargent.

Warrant officers tend to be technical experts.
One of the important distinctions in the US military is that officers are commissioned by Congress (technically - in practice, only flag officers (generals and admirals) are individually commissioned by Congress) and warrant officers are commissioned directly by the service. (I think it may actually be the Senate, not the whole Congress . . . it's been a long time.)
This is why enlisted cannot be commissioned directly as officers, but must be discharged from the service first, then commissioned from their new briefly civilian state. It's part of the whole complex of laws designed to ensure (as much as anything can once the lawyers get involved) civilian control of the military.

As originally portrayed, she was suffering from
severe PTSD.

Teamster terminology - when driving a four-in-hand (or more) team, the off leader is the farthest from the driver.
This goes back to when the teamster/drover walked alongside the team instead of riding, and, since the majority are you weird right-handed people, he walked on the left side of the team, so the right oxen/horses were the "off" side, as opposed to the left or "near", so he was farther from the off animal and thus (metaphorically) might be less familiar with it.

Why wouldn't she be able to?
I have the same reaction, because in many mythoses, vampires can't or won't eat solid food.
--FreeFlier
And in some it causes a violent adverse reaction: projectile vomiting blood.
Examples include 'What We do in the Shadows', a 2014 dark comedy about vampires from New Zealand.
