for me, I think it could have been better if the transition would have gone from yesterday where Jet looked fully human, to today's panel 3's visual placed with panel 2's text, and THEN gone to panel 2's visual with panel 3's text... concluding with panel four just as shown... basically going from full human with current memory in yesterday's strip and the one shown today being the one that only remembers the photo shoot at Amanda's, then to the cardboard cut-out that doesn't know Monica at all, down to a dis-embodied face that is probably the 12 year old girl from right after the crash...

I'll hazard a guess that the reason Monica was stressing that they need to "get this sorted, before..." was NOT about MONICA killing Tina... but for Tina to be able to tell anyone ELSE coming to kill her that M was NOT under those rules any more and that they don't need to kill her any more than they would have killed JET for having the Tar inside her... remember how even Phix didn't know that Monica had been "upgraded"? and that's even with how close those two are as well as it being in her own turf!!, so can you just imagine that any random Sphinxian passer-by will most likely NOT have heard the upgrade news either, and they will take it upon themselves to try to kill Tina for "harming a human"... and that Monica didn't have the time to tell her that, before Jet woke up and the second part of the "exorcism"/"healing" session could commence... yep, I foresee either Phix popping in, or the introduction of yet another Apotropaic Sphinx with execution orders in mind for Tina...

I am thinking that Tina might also be filed under special dispensation by the MIB. As bureaucratic as the Apo's seem to be, that should stop any of them from screwing with her.

I would think that much like Connie, Tina no longer comes under their jurisdiction. They no longer fit the rules, so they can no longer be made to fit the Apo's rule books. Tina just isn't aware of this.
Phix is a special case in that she acts as more of a social worker than an enforcer as far as Tina and Connie are concerned.

At first, I was like, "OK, no more Merciless Peppers of Quetzalacatenango with your chili!"

But after reading everyone's insights and before posting, I came back into something like perspective. I imagine these are all Georgette's parts, some of whom know Monica, others who don't...my guess as to the reason is that each entity returned to the point in time at which the tar attacked (kind of like a hard reset after the tar was destroyed). Guidance will work with Monica's support to bring them back into a whole being, I hope. And this I think was ultimately what Tina was hoping to accomplish by sending Monica into C-space to begin with.

Still not sure, but I'm thinking the tar came from an assault Jet endured in her past or some other force that, like the tar tried to do to her demons, control her by somehow making her feel worthless and "giving up". Monica is hopefully helping to undo all that now.

As for Tina back at the coffee shop, I'm too distracted by current events to even think about anything happening to her...I just hope she's not getting any ideas about harming HERSELF...

I got nuthin'. Just sitting back and enjoying the pretty, confusing pictures. Monica looks good in the face paint in panel 2. Been too busy simulaneously building my new computer while rebuilding my parents' system with my old parts so brain has been too distracted to try to figure anything comic related out. Actually using an OS-less computer with a Linux live disk right now.

No, she's losing the memories.

Yesterday she remembered going out to get sushi (which was not part of the photo shoot sequence).

In Panels One/Two, she remembers the photo shoot, which must have been before the sushi run.

In Panel Three, she's lost that memory and has no idea who Monica is.

It wouldn't surprise me to find that she's slipping all the way back to the plane crash...

I think you're on to something. I think we're rewinding back to the moment the Tar invaded Jett, and I'm betting the plane crash is that point.

I guess Monica will do some re-building of Jet. She's gathering different aspects of Jet. Aspects that were "in hiding" from the tar, after being violated.

Love the many explanations offered, and I'll agree that this looks like Monica's Jaguar space, and she's pulled in both Jet and her demons for a chat. Jet's reverted to some time around Amanda's photo shoot. Jet and Amanda had worked together before Monica joined them on the wine shoot, so this may before Jet met M. That's why the introductions after she further regressed ("I think I'm lost.") after the original meeting.

Meanwhile, M is "out to lunch" as far as Tina can see, because M is working internally right now. That would be why Tina thinks she broke Monica.

That, or I'm clueless.

Actually, this is what a Jaguar Girl is SUPPOSED to do, guide lost souls by walking between the two worlds. Georgette gets to meet her demons on neutral ground--where everyone is safe. Stand by for tears, hugs and healing.

That's my best guess too. Gather together the pieces of self and help them reintegrate now that the tar's influence is gone.

I generally think that's what we're led to believe so far-- Jet is experiencing a kind of Lethe. Bit worrisome, as that's supposed to be for the dead. On the other hand, Monica can knock em down and set em up again.


Today's speculation includes: Are the different aspects presented of Jet, especially ending in a demonesque mask-and-hair, representing that souls break up into smaller parts, like atoms into particles? And are these more elemental sentiences the demons that persist in a quantum state beyond the lives of universes?

Monica seems mighty in charge of her mystic functions. Is this from practice with Tsillah and others that we haven't seen, and/or has she been doing this for longer than that, say... in her sleep? Will she awaken with a lifetime of knowledge of what she's done in all those restless overnights?

No pressure, everyone.

I think we're overlooking one important possibility here. We know Jet was involved in a plane crash... but it was never said where the plane crashed. What if the plane crashed in the jungle and Jet's mind returned her to that reset point? The Demon shepherd part of Monica was drawn back into Jet's C-space as she regained consciousness as she would be needed to resolve Jet's issues and introduce her to her repressed demons. There is also the possibility that Jet is unaware of the existence of her demons... so, introductions are in order.

I'm anticipating that this isn't Jet's final journey... instead, it's a shaman-guided journey to "find herself" again, now that Tar's noxious influence on her has been eliminated. It's almost a truism in psychology and in many mystical traditions that each of us has "many within" - different voices, different aspects - and it feels as if Monica may be shepherding Jet's different "selves" back together towards a proper re-integration into a coherent whole. If so, this will be a passage for Jet into a new life... but not one which leads through death as we usually think of it.

The sphinxes seem to feel that human souls, and demons, are fundamentally different... hence their great un-ease about Concience, who melds the two into a single whole. Perhaps the sphinxes are wrong?

We've seen Monica exhibit her new powers before without really planning or knowing in advance... her initial poitings, her self-defensive poiting of bullets away from her, her angry hurling of Nudge into what she feared most, her summoning and shepherding of Jet's demons and destruction of Tar. Apparently some amount of "natural knowing" at a pre-conscious level comes along with the package, and it sometimes seems to be a shock to her afterwards.

Seems unlikely, as my impression is that they were going to meet with a model agency or some such early-career thing, and i wouldn't expect such a trip to be over Central American jungle.

Yep - there it is - "Your parents were taking you to a model agency." - 29 August. (I'd link but i'm not sure how to, here on the tablet without having to type the whole URL.)

I got the impression that Georgette's psyche is fragmenting and she's regressing. The fragmentation is due to the removal of Tar, which substituted itself for Jet's normal integration.
Now Monica is on a quest to re-integrate Jet sans Tar from the time of Tar's invasion.
