and tar is not a demon
But it does have some qualities of a demon, or of the jaguar girl, for it even to be there. Although it could be part of Jet's mind/ego that went looking for a place to hide. I think how long it has been there will be a very important piece of information.
But we can be sure things like that are few and tar between.
Drop a pothole into the pun jar. The Tar can be used to repair it.

So, they're locked in, yet Wapsi canon says a given demon may be assigned to more than one host at the same time. So, does she shuttle back and forth? Is she present in both simultaneously as quantum theory might predict? Or are both hosts assigned the same quantum covey space for free, yet limited movement of the associated demon(s)? Maybe only the trustee demons are allowed to move among the spaces.
If Guidance knows a JG can travel in and out at will, she may also know how it's done and can enlighten Monica. Thus far though, she's been pretty clueless as to the how or why of anything. Monica, for her part, needs to learn patience and stop getting angry with the beings trying to help her. A bit of gratitude for the loan of the hair shirt would be a nice start. OTOH, from what we have seen of JG in full bloom she is anything but patient. Like the other "monsters" she tends to go feral when in angry mode. Only Nudge seems to be pretty mellow regardless of the situation. Maybe it's because, even though she is immortal, she can't really go toe to toe with the likes of Phix, for example. She can still get beaten up pretty bad. Even though she'll heal, It likely hurts a lot. Probably why she has learned to be clever and quick instead of relying on brute strength. Creatures like that would also tend to go the placate your opponent if possible route. Smile, be nice and make your point as if you're complimenting someone, even though you're actually insulting them or trying to stir the pot.

The important word there is "may" - which is permissive but not compulsory.

Nudge is a trickster. Standing and fighting isn't their way; too straightforward. If the plan doesn't have more twists than a macrame plant hanger, they just don't feel right about it.

Although her desire to get out of there ASAP is completely understandable, M is going to have to take a deep breath and remember the lecture Phix gave her about not letting people down. The odds are pretty high that she's the only person in a position to do something about the Tar.

Another interesting turn of phrase. 'A' Jaguar Girl?
Tsillah said that M is the first sub-titan to be born in over a million years. The circumstances that made her that way were bizarre enough that it should be a singular event in history.
Shelly seemed to imply that M
was unique when she called her 'the' Jaguar Girl. Exactly how many others have there been, and how did they end up that way?

Perhaps that turn of phrase means that, up until now, the existence of a jaguar girl has been a theoretical possibility, not an actuality?

More likely that being a sub-titan is different from being a jaguar person. There may have been Jaguar men and women in the past that lacked Monica's other attributes, just as there are part Sphinxes that are not also part Titans like Shelly with a live in consciouses.

Shelly did initially refer to M as "a" jaguar girl:
http://wapsisquare.com/comic/jaguar-girl/
The Library announced her "status level" as subTitan, and her "designation" as Jaguar Girl:
http://wapsisquare.com/comic/officially-recog/
Her being a Jaguar Girl gave her access to and through all portals. SubTitan hasn't been expressly defined, though Paul, in comments, said that Tsillah was exaggerating about the million years.
Bud referred to the Library as a "bureaucratic hell hole":
http://wapsisquare.com/comic/a-lot-to-answer-for/
...so don't feel surprised about being confused. Though you might want to look at Tsillah's dialogue on that page when thinking about The Tar...

Oh my, an innocent soul who was killed? What about two innocent souls?
Poor Jet. Unless one of her parents invaded Jill, while Jet got the other... possibly the one who was pressuring her into becoming a model?

Or that, effectively, there is only one Jaguar Girl at a time?
