It has been some years since I've had to go so the price may have changed since then but IIRC getting a tire patched cost around $20 at the Walmart auto center. I liked being able to watch them do the repair like a restaurant with an open kitchen so you can be sure they didn't spit in your food.

Tire repair is loads of fun to watch, not nearly so fun to do.

My whole family has terrible luck with anything inflatable. My theory is that some ancestor told Charlie Goodyear a really bad joke.

Very neat... thank you! By an odd coincidence, I just finished reading an early-20th-century translation and analysis of the Babylonian version of the epic (courtesy of Project Gutenberg) late last week.

Can you reccommend a good treatise on Gilgamesh? I have only a shallow understanding of the actual story, I know a bit about how it's considered the first 'epic', but most of the translations I've found have been pretty dry translations only. I'd like something that explains it a bit better.

Try the one I just read. It has a good discussion of how the Babylonian and Assyrian versions of the epic differ, and an interesting take on how the tale might have evolved significantly even before it was recorded in the earliest (Babylonian) version known.

As this work is the best part of a century old it doesn't reflect the more recent discoveries, of course.

Just wait until it's made into a movie. I'm sure it will happen any day now. Yep. With Samuel L. Jackson as Gilgamesh, Daniel Day-Lewis as Enkidu, Megan Fox as Ishtar, and Jim Carrey as Beowulf. The scene where they blow up the Tower of Babylon in the background while the main characters nonchalantly stroll away in the foreground will be amazing.

My first impression is the night driving looks amazingly like the old Atari video game Night Driver. And, windshield wipers look wicked in sped up video...

Especially because the phone's sensor has what's known as a vertical rolling shutter, so anything moving quickly across the field of view gets stretched on a diagonal.

Same effect that causes old photos of racing cars to seem to be leaning forward with slanted oval tires - the cameras had vertically-traveling focal-plane shutters that swept from top to bottom.

This week has gotten worse by the day. People have been picking orders in the system without pulling the merchandise. People have seen the merchandise is ready for pick up, while they are logged in to the order, and didn't pick it in the system. Some stuff, we don't even have in the building.

And then there's the issue with the store's smart phones. I use the one for my department when I pull the orders. I scan the bar code and it checks the item off from the list. Some worthless piece of shit from another department took the phone and hid it in his locker. So it made my job harder.

Oh, and tomorrow was supposed to be my last day, but because the HR associate at my store keeps dragging her feet, that ain't happening.

Home Depot sucks. Try to forget the place exists.

This is for both the human/cat hybrid and our friend be-deviled by the big-box-store chain....
