So, in reference to a post for yesterday's comic, it would be money that was inherited, and at the very least maintained, if not increased, as opposed to squandered, for several generations.

I doubt very much it would be royalty. The term "Princess" being bandied about is probably more about attitude than anything else.

That's only sensible. They're in high school, after all, and from what I can recall of the institution you never could be sure just when a maddened Cape buffalo might charge through the halls.

I do think Abbie has a point that's not just on her fangs, though. Nadette seems to be a bit prone to "drift with the wind" rather than choosing her own course. Maybe that comes with being a Seer? or just the tug-of-inertia to "do what the family has always done" that's common among the gentry?

Or conversely, her parents have been on a "you've got to do something with your life" jag recently and now a teacher is piling on. Perhaps at the request of her pushy parents.
In my case the resentment was compounded by parents who also vetoed any ideas they didn't approve of, with no hint of a reason as to why.

One does not inherit competence -- it has to be developed. She's living in the shadow of her parents successes and living off their largesse. If her parents are wise, they've been encouraging and developing her skills to do and become successful. But at a teen, she's encountering the "Life Is More Complicated Than It Looks" problems, and they're running up against her own self awareness issues.

Self esteem isn't handed to you, it's built. Maybe she's only seeing failure at the moment by comparing herself to some very high standards!

Come to think of it, I think the only real challenge we've seen Nadette take on was getting through to Atsali . . .

If her parents are wealthy, there's generally a reason why. Even inherited money generally requires the kid to learn how to maintain it. Which typically involves C-level executive MBA style training and/or financial training that people would pay generously to get advice from.

Then again, if she's 'Poseidon's my uncle' level wealthy like Devin, not even this may be necessary.

Still, there's a difference between 'never needing to work a day in your life' and 'what would you LIKE to do with your life'. The former is something 99% of us must answer. The latter is something only afforded to the fortunate or those who don't have to answer the previous question. Even if she never does have to work, fending off ennui should be enough reason to at least pick up a productive hobby.

So what DO we know about Nadette, other than she's an Ursamorph?

• She's a Seer.
• She's one of a set of twins (I don't think we know if they're identical or "fraternal" (sororital?) though.)
• She and her twin sister Berdine transferred to Gryphon from "out west" (I can't recall if we know precisely where).
• She sometimes tends to "blurt out" what she Sees about other people. This is awkward for all concerned, and she's tended to "be the quiet one" of the pair (letting Berdine do the talking).
• Their great-grandmother had "Cherokee wisdom". I don't think there's been any canon statement that their great-grandmother was a human, though; if not this suggests some ongoing cultural contact between the Cherokee people and ursamorphs. In either case, it's likely that their family lived in the southeastern United States for at least some time.
• Their parents own a very-well-equipped winter cabin.
• She and Atsali have been girlfriends for several years.

And that seems to be Ms. Alger's area of concern (and Abbie's). Nadette may be tending to "drift" - not yet developing a focus even on what she would want to do, but just "going along with the program". That's not necessarily a path to a happy life.

There's a proverb in many cultures that "Wealth does not outlast three generations". It's not universally or absolutely true, but I think it does reflect a reality... the generations which grow up in a state of wealth and privilege and entitlement, often do not learn or acquire the same sort of drive that led to their families' rise to wealth in the first place.
