Proof Positive the world is not flat: If it were, cats would have pushed everything off the edge by now.

I haven't read the whole thread, so I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but it looms like Kath is sporting some gray hairs now...

Given what that woman has gone through, how could she not have gray hairs by now?

Or she goes by her last name and her first name is 'Irene'...AnotherFairportfan wrote:Given that her name is "Adler", it wouldn't surprise me if she's a flyer - and another raptor.
I tried wrestling in high school. Unfortunately, the coach was an idiotic dip and not only permitted but encouraged hazing. The other kids were intent on trying to 'show me my place'. I walked off the team and took a zero for the rest of the semester rather than put someone in the hospital. I can understand the restriction on predatory paras not involved in contact sports. As it was, the worst that happened was I popped someone's shoulder out of socket when they tried more WWF and less Greco-Roman and tried an elbow to the temple. But I was polite... I then put it back for him.
Re: Talk With You Later 2016-04-15
I would expect that Adler is the coach's last name, not her first . . . for one thing, Katherine addresses the coach as Mrs. Adler . . .
At least in my day it was title (Mr., Mrs., Miss, Coach) and last name unless you were specifically invited. Of course, sometimes the invitation was to use a nickname . . . the football coach was The O.
I keep wondering if Katherine is going to use the "We'll discuss this tomorrow" on Atsali when she gets home . . . properly applied, that can induce record levels of guilt.
Of course, given Atsali's attitude in panel 1 . . .
I do feel sorry for Nadette . . . all that anxiety, and she's going to lose her girlfriend, at least for a while.

I keep looking at the third frame in today's strip, and I swear Pablo has done a masterful job of portraying the coach just as she is about to start taking a deep and very nervous gulp!!FreeFlier wrote:I would expect that Adler is the coach's last name.
She knows she screwed up... big time. The tone in which she hears "Now... Mrs. Adler..." tells her that the hammer is about to descend. She knows that she is guilty and has no real defense.
She is definitely in an adlered state of conscienceness.
(Places a copy of "How to Win Friends and Influence People" into the Pun Jar. Alas, it is too late for her to read it now.)
Re: Talk With You Later 2016-04-15
Given that she's Mrs. Adler, this implies that the Adler name belongs to the spouse, assuming heteronormative norms. If so, it doesn't tell us a thing about her para-ness (assuming that she has one).AnotherFairportfan wrote:Given that her name is "Adler", it wouldn't surprise me if she's a flyer - and another raptor.Gyrrakavian wrote:What type of para was the swim instructor, again? Re: Talk With You Later 2016-04-15
The woman taking her husband's name is conventional . . . but not necessary.
I was going to suggest that I would expect paras to marry paras, but then Kevin came to mind . . . Then I realized that I don't recall any adult male paras, and not many male paras at all. There is Timmy in Castela's class, and some possibly paranormal males in the background at Griffon, but all of the other named male characters I can think of are apparently normals.
Have we seen any named males that were definitely paranormals?
On another note, maybe Katherine should let Nadette talk to Atsali so Nadette can tell Atsali how scared she was. That might get the point across . . .

Jacob, Satyr (barista, classmate of Atsali's and her former crush)
Daniel, Mermaid (or possibly Triton depending on nomenclature), Jessie's brother and now possibly Jacob's boyfriend

Daniel could also be called a merman.

Tepoz, Mr. Meadows, Stinky, Baxter, Boo, Charon.Dave wrote:Justin/Epimetheus, Titan (Shelly's guy)FreeFlier wrote:Have we seen any named males that were definitely paranormals?--FreeFlier
Jacob, Satyr (barista, classmate of Atsali's and her former crush)

And Mr. Wahnee (half sphinx) and Kukulcan (immortal human), if that counts.
Re: Talk With You Later 2016-04-15
Tepoz is an artificial construct with no human component. As such I would say he's not a paranormal, but closer to a supernatural being.Catawampus wrote:Tepoz, Mr. Meadows, Stinky, Baxter, Boo, Charon.Dave wrote:Justin/Epimetheus, Titan (Shelly's guy)FreeFlier wrote:Have we seen any named males that were definitely paranormals?

Mr. Meadows, most likely yes.
Stinky is non-human, and gender was not, that I remember, ever established.
Baxter and Boo are supernatural beings, not paranormals.
Mr. Wahnee is of paranormal ancestry, but has never exhibited paranormal powers, unless you count surviving raising Shelly.
I don't remember that Kukulcan's status was ever established except as a god or demigod. I would class either case as a supernatural being, not a paranormal.

...I kinda figured supernatural is pretty much the same as paranormal in the context of differentiating "humans", "truth-aware humans" and "everything the ignorant humans don't know about and is being covered up by MIB"

Re: Talk With You Later 2016-04-15
I'm defining paranormal as "human or former human with abilities beyond normal humans".
Stinky is a special case because Stinky could be a normal kraken who has simply formed a friendship bond with the golem girls. (We know very little about the kraken and their cousins. However, they are known to be very intelligent.)
Mr. Meadows is also a special case, but I'll accept him as a paranormal.
The various gods are so far beyond the human norms that they're in a special class. (Monica is pushing the boundary on that . . . but she's living as a human.)
Supernatural beings like the cerebrei were never human . . . we need a better term for those.

For Baxter and Boo specifically, we already have "goofy doggy" (Shelly) and "knucklehead fleabags" (Tsillah). Do we need a third term?FreeFlier wrote:Supernatural beings like the cerebrei were never human . . . we need a better term for those.
