Port-and-Starboard Tree

Post by AnotherFairportfan »

This actually IS a single tree - now, at least.

Every responsible adult should be able to shoot his/her own dogwood, when necessary.

Hmm.. So, the bark would be well chewed before being released?

I live out near San Francisco, Ca and I cant tell you the number of times people have mentioned how nice the local flowering Magnolias are, only to be brought back to reality by myself when I inform them those are really Dogwoods...

(reference the film 'the American President...) '

Umm... I don't know... I was actually making a reference to the Disney movie "Old Yeller" (based on a book by the same name).

How do people mix up Dogwood and Magnolia? I mean, the flowers don't look alike, and magnolias have these HUGE dark, glossy leaves.

Dogwood, by the way, is a horrible choice for firewood. It burns just fine... but it smells like you're burning feces.

It is if you live in an non-air-conditioned house during the summer in Atlanta and there are three of the things all growing within twenty feet of your bedroom windows...

I swear, the people 'out here' look at the ornamental Dogwood and just 'know' it's a Magnolia. I'll see if I can get a picture posted of a good example...

I'd rather have dogwood than sumac. Especially poison sumac.

It was magnolias growing outside my bedroom window, not dogwoods.

The house i grew up in had a huge dogwood right outside my bedroom window.
