Why discuss? Just CHEER!!!

(and, I suppose, fart along with M)

EDIT: $ME expresses a hope that Paul does an initial run of these, "premium", with sketches, that we can order direct from him... I'd preorder one of each in a red-hot minute.

Volume 7 is gonna be a long one, going from Shelly's return all the way up to the Anasazi arc.

I'm partial to Volume 8, of course...

Direct link to the Farting Rainbows book page in his store...

320 pages! Yeah, it's a doozie. Twice the size of "Visits To A Sandbar" and the others in 1-6 (and a few bucks less than twice the price).

OhBoyOhBoyOhBoyOhBoyOhBoyOhBoyOhBoyOhBoyOhBoyOhBoyOhBoyOhBoy...

(I can't say "I just can't wait for it to arrive"... because if that were true I'd have sprung for expensive expedited shipping, rather than the cheap "Just mail it" version. I can wait... more time to savor the anticipation!)

I'm still working up my own list of things, and because next month has THIS on it's list, I will need to forgo, for now, the satisfaction of proclaiming

"Seven!, In One Blow!"

(After all, I lurked and skulked about enough comic shops to collect quite a bit of Foglio and stuff, why not some Pablo to fill in a bit of the shelf...) <-- Rhetorical musing has no question mark...

Mine was apparently delivered at 1:40 this afternoon. Assuming that nonaubumz got there first, I'll have it after dinner this evening! :D

Well, yeah. btw, it comes in pieces and I get to solder and otherwise assemble it myself.

That's the real 'gift to myself' part...

Yeah, that's fun. There's a real joy in creating something interesting yourself. Even if it's somebody else's design, and bag of kitted-up parts, you know that this particular one wouldn't exist as a useful device if you hadn't built it.

And, VFDs are cool! They're basically just tiny triode vacuum tubes (cathode, grid, and anode) with fluorescent anodes and multiple grids.

Noritake (the biggest manufacturer of VFDs) is seeing their marjet fade away, replaced by LCDs and OLEDs. They've apparently announced a new product... a microminiature dual-triode vacuum tube, for audiophile and musician use (e.g. in guitar amplifiiers). It's rather a gimmick, I suspect, but it's a cute spinoff of their technology and probably wasn't all that hard for them to engineer.

Well, I decided not to wait... just put in my order with Lulu. Signed copies would have been nice, but who knows when he'll offer them (IIRC it was some years after 1-6 were available that Paul offered signed-sketch versions).

I've got a nice collection of his signed original artwork, sufficient to create that comfortable glow of happiness :D

Lulu had me confused -- Vol 8 is first on page 1, and Vol 7 is next to last on page 2.

Waiting on the mail now....

I've not been able to make much sense of how Lulu orders an author's titles.

I didn't see that very nice "Illustration" collection of color strips and sketches and pinups that Paul offered a year or two ago. Checking my copy I don't see any identification of the printer, so it might not have been a Lulu production.

Got Volume 8 today, just as promised. Very nice... starts (as expected) with the Nudge Goes Bathing sequence, ends with the "Would you like that? Oh, yes, please!" adoption, and has a great glossy-color version of the (somewhat later) "Mama Bear" three-way hug on the back cover.

Print-on-demand services such as Lulu are a wonderful thing. It's so much easier for a "specialist" publication to be printed and distributed these days... the modern version of the old "underground press" but available to pretty much anybody at the push of a button. No minimum press runs, no remainders, no unsold stock which these days often gets hit with an "asset tax"... you can keep books "in print" indefinitely at any sales level.

(Disclaimer: I have one book at Lulu myself... Laporte's "Radio Antenna Engineering". It's in the public domain these days, so I put it up for purchase using Lulu's "royalties are waived" sell-at-cost-of-printing program.)
