Actually, I think she's letting them off lightly. They essentially took her experiment from her (though she at least was being permitted to observe and give input), and the individuals who were given the task apparently weren't qualified, based on how much they doubted her already.

But then, the best and brightest are either smart enough to not work for any government agency, or work on those unacknowledged special access projects, where the only people who know the project exists are the people working on it, and the one individual in the government who secures the funding. (Supposedly, this stuff isn't even included in the "black budget", and the method of obtaining the funding involves some illegal methods, but that's a can of worms I'm not willing to open with a remotely controlled robot...)

Yep.

I wouldn't touch it with an eleven-foot Hungarian...

...or even a twelve-foot Lithuanian.

Consider that you are an expert in the field being studied, and the graduate student announces something completely off the wall that is not specifically prohibited by the known rules. That's a Huh? What? moment if ever there was one.

Her attempt at humor may have bumped up against an extreme, rare, and potentially dangerous possibility that can't be ruled out quite yet!

Once upon a time, radioactive stuff killed people slowly and nobody knew why. Oh, and it goes BOOM! if the conditions are just right.

Surprise!

Maybe so... but it seems to me that joking about a safety issue, while doing an experiment which has already shown that it's highly dangerous ("exhale now if you don't want your blood to boil") is a Really Bad Idea. It sends absolutely the wrong message ("When I warn you about something, you don't need to take me seriously") and it could end up with someone getting hurt or killed unnecessarily.

Her "joking" shows a casual disrespect for the safety of other people present, and her "Gee, you aren't smart enough to realize that was a joke" putdown just makes her contempt more obvious.

Scarlet is brilliant, and frustrated at not being taken seriously, but I think she's handing this badly. She effectively alienating herself from the very people who can control her access to the technology she needs to continue her research. If she's wrong about anything or makes any mistakes at all in this experiment, the MIB team may cut her off and she'll have no friends on the inside to advocate for her.

She needs to tell them that henceforth safety warnings are Not Jokes, and when she makes a joke it will not be couched as a safety warning.

Quite true. Time for jokes and not time for jokes. Keep them well apart!
