More than a decade later I can still barely handle the smell of the stuff.
That was me with Tequila until I got introduced to Patron. I'd have a weekend out with friends. I'd play bartender(their keys locked in my car, mine tucked in a safe place), and somehow always end up with that worm. Blech!

Recently, I ended up drinking a Mojito with some Patron in it, and was rather surprised. That surprise continued when I was gifted a bottle of Jameson for Mother's Day. It was a grand treat to watch my wee one sleep after a rough and tumble day, and sipping a nice bit to end it on a high note.
Yanno how some people have Angels/Devils for a conscience? I have a Dark Elf ShadowKnight and a Half Elf Ranger for mine. The really bad part is when they agree on something.

I can't help but wonder what you were drinking before. It must have been some reeeally cheap stuff or something else in the mezcal family since real tequila is not supposed to have a worm.

I've tried the expensive whiskeys and such...still won't drink it. I can't even handle it in mixed drinks where it's supposedly "impossible to taste." :)

As for tequila...I was raised by parents who could rightfully be called tequila connoisseurs. Back when I was too young to drink, they could tell you what tequila was used to make their margaritas (or other mixed drinks). :) That said, they regularly break the cardinal rule of tequila snobbery...they use sipping tequilas in their margaritas. I tend to agree with that choice though...makes the beverage sooo much smoother! As for the tequila I learned to love with their help? Chinaco Añejo. :) Good stuff!

Well, I myself am not a drinker. If I counted the times I've drank on my hands I'd probably have fingers left over but even I can appreciate a good tequila/mezcal. A few years ago we visited the El Tinieblo distillery in San Miguel de Allende. You could get drunk off the fumes in that place. It was great. :D

They brought it back from a vacation, and it was expensive...I was playing bartender when I'd hang out with them 'cause they knew I needed practice with my mixology.
They'd fight over the dregs(of which I only ever drank one shot), and no matter how careful i was, I'd always get that stupid worm.

IME, vodka is best when mixed with tart or sour flavors. My favorite mixed drink is a Vodka Collins with a squeeze.

The idea of drinking vodka neat baffles me. The whole point of vodka is to distill and filter it so as to make it as flavorless as possible. If you deliberately flavor the vodka itself it it's not vodka anymore. A good example is gin; vodka is the base, then it's flavored with juniper and other flavors to make gin. If I want to drink liquor straight I want something with real flavor, like a good tequila, bourbon or scotch.

One can imagine my disappointment when a quick search determined "Cherry Vodka" is not a pornstar.
