Waiting For Pablot

Post by Dave »

As MerchManDan said, it's going to be a looooooong hiatus. Since Paul has some worthy and urgent life matters to attend to during the next few weeks, we'll just have to amuse ourselves.

Lacking the ability to contribute much in the way of original art, I thought that kicking off some Wapsi re-scripting might be fun... and quite topical. What came to mind was Samuel Beckett's classic play of the absurd Waiting For Godot. There's quite a bit of dialog in the play which can be applied to our current Wapsi dry spell, anxieties, and raving withdrawal symptoms.

This bit from Act 1 seems to fit (and a cookie goes to the first person to identify the location and its relevance). I've got a few more ideas and will try to put the artwork together over the next week or so.

Anybody else got good ideas for classic literature which could be rescripted into the mouths of our favorite paranormals?

Some scenes of Monica and Dietzel could mostly fill in for Pozzo and Lucky, though I don't really imagine Dietzel quite matching Lucky's soliloquy.

A little while back I needed to check to see that I'd successfully repaired the intercom system in a store, so as a meaningless test message I announced, "Mister Godot, your party is waiting. Mister Godot, your party is waiting. Thank you." Franco-Irish absurdist literature isn't exactly greatly popular in these parts, though, so most everyone simply looked confused or didn't even think anything of it at all.

Hmmm. I wonder whether some Snoopy-style thought balloons would be appropriate for Dietzel? As of today, I think the "canon" has been that his thought processes are entirely internal - we see his expressions and actions, but they're never transliterated into any form of written or spoken language.

Given this, though, the question of who is leading whom comes up! maybe casting Monica as Lucky would be more appropriate?

Almost never, although what we're seeing in these comics probably doesn't count as "language." ;)

Since the dialog in the play mentioned goats... goats it is!

The background images are photos I took in Jerash, Jordon last year, in the old Greco-Roman city of Gerasa.

I thought of saving this one to post at the last moment...on June 22nd...but decided I didn't want to wait.

I figured you'd all be here, regardless of when I posted it.

We can't leave.

We're waiting for Pablot.

Waiting for Pablot - Saturday?

Post by Dave »

And, with gentle apologies to both Mr. Taylor and Mr. Beckett, here's one final offering to help while away the remaining days (however many they may be).

Posted at 9:01 PM Pacific Daylight Time (Saturday) which makes it 12:01 AM Eastern Daylight Time (Sunday). It simply seemed appropriate.

Castela should not be a goat-herd. They might over-prune her foliage.

She'd probably be okay with cows though.
