Re: More Stuff

Having one of them be a chemical light-stick is a good idea. "Intrinsically safe" (cannot spark an explosion), waterproof, can produce at least some light for quite a few hours, comes in multiple light-colors so you can color-coordinate with your outfits, or use different colors to mark d...

Re: More Stuff

I have a couple of small ferro rods, actually, but I should probably get one of the larger ones. From what I hear, you're supposed to keep at least three different methods of starting a fire in your survival kit, but all I have are lighters and a few small ferro rods. A magnifying lens works nicely...

Never eat Digit’s brownies. Depends on which bugs she uses, and what plants those bugs have recently been feeding on. Aphids can taste sugary, ants can taste zesty, termites can taste nutty. . .you have all sorts of flavour and texture options to perk up your baked goods! I wonder what she thinks o...

Re: More Stuff

Ha! The canteen pouch I ordered arrived. While it is certainly different from the canteen pouches I was issued in basic, it will hold the metal cup with the older metal canteen (not sure how old, but it definitely predates the plastic ones with the drinking valve that connects to a gas mask), and I...

That nose kinda reminds me of something in a sci-fi movie - Space Wars , or something like that? http://forum.wapsisquare.com/download/file.php?id=1991 You do get quite a view from those windows. I don't recall ever getting to be near a B-29, but I did once get to ride in the nose of a B-17. Probab...

Re: More Stuff

I tried on my poncho today, just to get a look at the thing, and I noticed that there's a string in there, kind of like what would be used for a drawstring, but it isn't set up as one. It's clearly meant to be there, but I have no clue what it's for. I don't recall seeing one on the poncho I was is...

Re: More Stuff

I had also noticed that a lot of my small tools have lanyard holes, so I was thinking... Why not have all of them on midline loops on the same cord, so I don't have to keep cutting cordage? I don't actually know if that's a good idea or not, as I'd be pulling out several small things every time I n...

Perhaps Amanda sees a bit of Selenium in Shelly's sphinxy side. Hopefully with less horking up of massive hairballs.

Re: More Stuff

When you mentioned Flecktarn cammo, I flashed on the WWI German hexagonal aircraft cammo. You don't need subdued colors to be effective when breaking up outlines! If you've got a bright, vivid environment, then you use bright, vivid camouflage. I've seen vehicles painted bright pink, because they w...

Which reminds me, I saw a video once that was showing off a spool of paracord that looked like a tape measure, and it had a blade on it to cut it as needed, so that could be a decent addition. Then you have the extra weight of the dispenser to carry around, which might not be much by itself but eve...

I ordered a MOLLE vest earlier, and it comes with eight pouches with the Flecktarn pattern. In the picture, two that look very similar to the compass pouch the US military uses are attached to the vest, at the shoulders, and there are six large pouches that sit lower. I know I'm going to put at lea...

I don't know if I've already asked this question, but does anyone got any recommendations for a good rucksack? I'd been looking at ordering a Särmä TST RP80, as I hear they'd pretty damn good, and are comparable to rucks that cost more than twice as much (the current price is around $520), but I mi...

Perhaps Timothy has more than one mother. Or Mrs. Alger is more than one entity in a single body, sort of like Tina.

I know seeing that would make me nervous, those are dangerous to everyone if you don't know how to use them. I carried bone bruises around for years after my first few tries with the long-chain nunchucks, which I can't remember the name for because TBI from getting hit with a truck. That's why I've...

Combat knives. Not cooking knives. At least, I hope not. Depending on the kitchen environment, they may need to be dual-purpose. Interesting choice of steel. Apparently S5 isn't so great at holding an edge, and needs to be resharpened rather frequently if you use it, but it's very difficult to brea...

So has Tina retired and handed Mucho Mocha over to Beckie? Tina already put Becky in charge of the day-to-day stuff a few years back, apparently. It seems that Tina still owns the place, checks out the new employees, and works the occasional shift when she feels like it. The big question is: what d...

I picked up some mixing balls for my paints, because some of the paints are heavy pigments that like to separate. A couple of my paints, like my Tesseract Glow, don't like to mix at all when shaking the pot without a mixing ball, but after putting one in there, it mixed pretty damn quickly. In lab ...
