I'm frankly more concerned (after getting over the yuck factor of the skinning bit) with Unfortunately, good intentions can still be dangerous. What does she mean. Why does she even say that? Anything to do with anyone else from the cast? M? Euryale? Pratt and McBride as doorme... doorwomen to the ...

Time Travel Vocabulary!
Ref: Thread for 12/19/12. So, time travelers would need a variety of tenses beyond Standard English. For those not native speakers, here's the list of normal verb tenses in English, before we get on to the needed "expanded" list. (Thanks to the Purdue OWL for the list of current tenses) Si...

VEI7. Oh my. So Brandi set up Mazama , then? Cubic kilometers of mass ejected. Wowza. Oh, and the scale is open-ended, but logrithmic. So a VEI17 is possible, but would eject the approximate volume of the Earth from the volcano - inside out planet? (Math: VEI8 is 1E3 cubic km, VEI17 would be 1E12 cu...

I suspect that the presence of the larger PayPal donation button has frobnicated the page formatting. I'm not sure, but I think this is the first time I've been frobnicated... Well, it wasn't quite a traditional use of the term. If I'd been speaking in Formal High Hacker, I would have said "I ...

Also, sorry for bringing back the old threads to the top of the page... I didn't realize it would do that. :( Now I'm gonna mess everything up if I keep commenting. That happens because the naming convention didn't put the date first. Of course then one would need to choose Subject in the sorting o...

Re: Worse Things Waiting - TV show about Justin Beiber's lif
In other news, the competition is planning counter-programming for the Beiber time slot. Production companies are rushing to produce Real-Life dramas centered around grass growing, paint drying, and funny baby home videos. "I'd watch that for a quarter in pay!" Fixed that for ya...

I'm guessing that the MIB has cracked the Somebody Else's Problem Field Generator, and that's in the van.

Re: It's not a laser WEAPON, unfortunately
Given that I'm moving to Texas shortly, this is good information for me to have. I guess I'll need to get an ID card for when I'm riding (I often don't carry my wallet), in addition to a new driver's license. Texas has a lot of room, you can move in a tall fashion... Is that the pun jar I hear ratt...

Some stuff, like helmet laws, varies city to city so make sure to ask when you get here. Helmets are never optional (just my opinion). My brain is my most valuable organ, so I'll be wearing the bucket whenever I'm riding :). I'm going to be unemployed on arrival (anyone in the Fort Worth area know ...

IRL I am a medical examiner. While I would normally never falsify a report, I'll be damned if I'll ever sign a death certificate as "death due to Vampire attack." This shows, despite your animalistic avatar, you are no fun. ;) I'm lots of fun. I'm just inordinately fond of continued emplo...

Re: It's not a laser WEAPON, unfortunately
In College Station proper, there are bike lanes which bikes must be in, and you must have lights when driving after dark. Cops on bikes can and *WILL* ticket you, and they will demand a state issued photo ID to pin it on you. While they can't demand a driver's license, every adult in the state of T...

I'd like to note that everything I've said can only be applied to New York State (outside NYC) and Marlyand. The laws also change based on speed limit in some jurisdictions.Fairportfan wrote:Riding a bicycle on the shoulder is illegal in many/most jurisdictions - you're supposed to follow the same rules as cars.

How's this: we hold motorists responsible for their conduct around bicycles (following too close, passing in the same lane, crossing a double yellow to pass, etc) the same as around cars. We also make it so if a cyclist over 16 is seen to be violating traffic laws (and yes, many states have specifi...

Re: Cell Phones - Love/Hate?
Part of why POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) is that their switching centers have big plain old BATTERY banks good for a long time during outages, and cushion the space between outage and generator backups coming online. Think room sized UPS for the telephone system. Further, the basic POTS phone...
