What? Me? I'm perfectly rational.

The instant somebody says "I don't know what you're talking about." is a dead giveaway that shit ain't kosher and somebody knows more than they're letting on.

That's how long time partners wind up staring at one another down the barrel of their guns.

Lily is channeling someone! Maybe the Underworld force that is trying to get hold of the dolls? Maybe the spider woman? Or she knows something others don't know, like the real mission?

Scantrontb just made an interesting comment yesterday. If we consider the mine as the Minotaurs lair then Kath and Sali are making a quest and re-enacting Greek myths. This stage is Orpheus. They are going into the underworld after something. To gain entrance and calm down the threat they have Sali's Siren voice instead of playing a harp. Are they going to rescue the Spider Women? Maybe just the dolls? I wonder what other Greek myths they will go through to finish the quest.

I was just think the same thing--is she trying to convince the "officers" under her that the people they came to save are dead (knowing that they are not) and thanks to you guys we will never know what is under the pile of rubble. Oh well time to go home. . . . ;)

did any else notice that kat was writing down what was under the rock she took such care to destroy. . . .wouldn't writing it down automatically put a copy into the magical Library?
I smell a plot thickening. . .

Ah! So lily is upset about the apparent death of the two people she was expected to help.
That makes her outburst a tad more understandable.

She also tries to save face, to no avail... I guess this schlammassel weighs heavy on her.

(what I am trying to say is: Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar..)

She took a picture of it. She didn't write it down. The library stores written and printed material, not pictures. If it did the whole thing would be three times bigger. So it does not have a copy of it.

You could make a case that storing the image does write it down but it would be useless data until it is translated into an image. All the file has is the location and color of each pixel it captured for the image.

If you're gonna dance around the subject, you better hope you have a good polka face.

I suspect you are waltzing around the subject as well.

Both vampires have their big red issue buttons. We know Suzy's is girls being abandoned and/or tortured before being killed. It's what set her off on Bloody Meatsnak. Lily appears to have a similar trigger regarding women being killed in a particularly fiery death. If if McBride hasn't seen this behavior from Pratt before, it means that Suze hasn't been around Lily when that particular button has been pushed.

The circumstances of their creation/reanimation as vampires has left these women with some serious issues. Issues that, for the most part, they seem to be unaware of in one another.

Lily doesn't know that Suzy tries to keep abandoned and forgotten girls from rising as vampires. She just assumes that Suzy has killed another random person when she sees the MiB"cleaning up after her". By the same token, McBride isn't sure what about this particular FUBAR has set Lily off.

These girls really need to communicate.

Especially when they won't look you in the eye when saying it, and double-especially when they close their eyes when saying it. Those are fairly reliable "tells".

Whatever else she may be, and whatever she may have done in her life and (long?) undead afterlife, Lily doesn't seem to be a particulaly good liar. If the people of Rock Ridge were in earshot of this conversation I imagine that they'd respond to Lily with a stern "Bullshit!" :)

An excellent prescription for a wide variety of human problems! It's not a cure-all, but is an absolute prerequisite for most solutions that don't end up involve a distressing number of deaths.

So Lily DIDN'T see Atsali as she dove out of the copter, and now thinks it's a complete disaster. No wonder she's so upset.

It might be the stress of being in the MiB and in command that's making her go ballistic. And lie about it.

RE Mr. Taylor's friend's DRAGON Magazines: It might have been better to have included a statement to the effect that they've got to go and he wants someone who will care for them to have them, etc, etc, and that's why the starting price is just $.01. Especially without free shipping. EBay had to change their policies recently because sellers were offering items at very low prices then informing the buyer "Oh and by the way, shipping comes to several hundred dollars". With such a low price, without explanation, buyers will be suspicious...

Occam's Razor: Lily's issue isn't with how she perceived Kath/Atsali dying. It's simpler than that.

She's afraid of failing. Especially when it's someone very, very, VERY high up in the CoC. (Like, say, Brandi.)

And it's probably because she failed once when she was "alive", and in so doing, she was left for dead and forgotten... until some bloodsucker came along and turned her.

Paul, I'm not a grammar Nazi, but since I rarely notice mistakes when I do it makes me happy, because I noticed it. In the second panel, you left off the 'n' in known. Not a big deal, but to me it's like a word find and I found one.

Gang, you're missing a very important point: The MIB team didn't know that there is (or was) a gate at that location!

I wouldn't put it outside the realm of possibility that Brandi is aware of that fact; but if the existence this stargate is unknown to her as well...

Leads one to start stretching the little grey cells...

I know! They're assuming (understandably) that Kat and Atsali are dead and someone else kamakazed the choppers...that suggests that there's a lot going on here that wasn't known by anyone...be it Brandi or the Library. :) Epic awesomeness comes from situations like these!

EDIT: btw...I didn't get the "There's no emergency" comment Lily made. Who mentioned an emergency? Plus, I'd say being stranded because your helicopters were blown up (and "killed" two women in the process) is a kind of emergency.

I think it was sarcasm on her part. "Oh, no, you're perfectly right. There's no need for me to be upset. Everything here is perfectly normal. A mysterious pilot who destroys both of our choppers, trashes the site we were sent to investigate, and kills two innocent women... why, that's as normal as tea and crumpets for us. There's nothing urgent about this situation at all. Terribly sorry that I got hot under the collar and shouted at our team, Suze. NOT!"

I have to wonder here... no one was watching the Helicopters? Pilots normally don't get too far away from their aircraft... unless they are in a completely secure area... not to mention the fact that a starting helicopter is a pretty long and drawn out affair... and loud. Could Atsali have sung her siren's song to the crews to get them to the edge of the crater and keep them captivated until she could abscond with the MiB's defensive protection and destroy their means of escape?

As far as Lily goes... I think Director Brandi briefed her on a lot more info than we've seen in the strip... Knowledge that Lily carries, knowing that a failure of this magnitude will not go well for her. Her anger is both right and wrong. Right because gee Mister pilots... why weren't you at your helicopters... guarding them or sumpin'? Wrong because the conduct of the mission is always the responsibility of the mission commander. Success or failure, it falls on the commander.

I also agree that the team was enroute when Kath arrived at the Library... A lot of things being put into motion at the same time unbeknownst to all parties involved...
