Kathy doesn't trust them after all. I thought she probably wouldn't. You go girl.

Kathy noticed Atsi's expression as well. That last comment was to tell her that their team adventure was still on. I'll bet that orphan comment and how she was dismissed really hurt. This will cheer her up. Expect a sunshine smile from her on monday. Or a surprise look and asking are you sure???

I really like Katherine right now.

Okay - Katharine Gilchrist 1.0 seems to be surfacing from under Katharine Gilchrist 2.0 where she's been hiding.

If we find out there're a beat-up fedora and a bullwhip that she didn't remember she put there in the Very Back of he hall closet...

Katherine is smart to not trust them right away. I do predict a facepalm after she learns how they are connected to Monica after her escape (attempt?).

Yay, Kath! Way to reassure Atsali!

I wonder how they could lose the MiB? Once the copters are on the ground and powered down it will take a while for them to get airborne again, but unless Atsali can fly really fast for a long time while carrying Kath I doubt they could get away. The Library entrance is closed. And if the triangular cutout leads to a cave, trying to go that way might be out of the frying pan etc etc. We'll have to see.

Now, Katherine is ready to get down to business. And despite the 'tude of the MIB, 'Sali is a important part of this discovery, and her little skill of getting where she's going is going to come in handy when they give the others the slip.

Poor Atsali! Kat gets mega bonus points for the partner comment...though I wonder how seriously Atsali will take it after Kat tried to send her home for her own safety.

Also, I am very amused and looking forward to the bird-brained ideas to "lose the suits."

I can't see that face palm at all. The only way they are connected to Monica is that Brandi is in charge of MIB. This is looking more like it was the library that put this in motion. After all Lily and Pratt were assigned to work in the library. That let the library treat them as one of its resources.

Maybe the library set this up to give Kathy and Sali an adventure. To be really paranoid maybe the library set this up to get the two of them together. It would have sensed the need in both to not be alone and paired them up. The Aunt Cat bit from yesterday may not be as far fetched as we might think.

The library is a lot smarted than we think. We tend to think of it as a place to hold books but it is more than that. It has a mind of it's own and will act by itself. Good example is making Phix and Nudge co-librarians. It just doesn't do thing very often so we tend to for get it too is a player.

We still don't know what Quest Pratt & McBride have been set upon, which overlaps with what Kat is doing!

Yesterdays' revelation that Atsali is a part of an orphan group that visits the library once a month kinda drives home the why of Atsali's insistance on not informing Phix of what they were doing.I can only imagine that the orphans don't get too much freedom of their own to do anything separate from the other orphans. I see Atsali as a dreamer who hoped to one day escape the crowded, regimented, stifling lifestyle often associated with orphanages. From the first explanation of her dreams of adventure, everything points to a young girl dreaming of one day breaking the chains that bind her (metaphorical) and setting out on her own (or, as we see here, with the minimal amount of company). I imagine she's crying because the appearance of the MiB's claiming the library sent them and the revelation of her orphan status has burst a pretty big bubble for her and driven home the hopelessness of her situation. Her secret is out and it hurts... intensely.

It appears that Katherine sees that... and at least for a while, is willing to give the poor girl a sense of being... a sense of worth that is so often lacking in orphans. A sense that even though she's an orphan, she accomplished something very important, not only for her self, but also for scientific/mythical knowledge.

Good on you Katherine... Good on you.

That and/or Atsali took Katherine's cracking of her joints/knuckles as a sign of intimidation/physical violence?

It may be somewhat of a cliché that orphanages can be brutal places, but it not a baseless cliché

I like Katherine's use of the word 'partner' and getting Atsali thinking/working on a plan. It's the kind of thing that might give a shocked/withdrawing teenager some much needed confidence ("After all this, you trust me?")

I like this Kath a LOT. Empathic, assertive, resourceful - wow!

I can hardly wait for Monday's moment in time.

Time for a bit of off the wall speculation. It is based on the following facts:
1. There were two guardian spider spirits on the vase Sali grabbed. It looked like it was protecting the child according to Kathy. That was a spider woman guardian who had spider attributes.
2. Kathy is reclusive and doesn't socialize well. Used to take medication for something as well. Has her little room and protects it from squirrels.
3. The change in personality from passive to aggressive as this tale proceeds.
4. Sali is a child, true she is fifteen but still a child. Who Kathy just found out is an orphan.
5. We know very little about Kathy's past.
6. She is very tough. That's a lot of damage she has absorbed so far and is still walking around. Spiders tend to be very tough.

Maybe Kathy is that female spider like spirit. She's just been dormant for a long time and only now is being woken up. Her appearance, mostly the eyes, keep getting darker and more intense. Some have likened them to spider eyes. The other option for this is she is descended from that woman and only now has something happened to bring it out in her. Like Shelly taking so long to discover she's a sphinx. I doubt she will turn into a spider but she can show a lot of extra strength.

Maaaaybe, but I'm not sure. Kath actually used physical violence on Atsali a few "minutes" ago with that kick to the tail. Atsali seemed to recover pretty quick from that.

Well, how does "Sally Gilchrist" sound to you guys? We got ourselves a baby bird who may just have locked onto a mother figure.
