"mater" (mā' ter} is a regional slang term for "tomato".

So, Hiroshi was tricked into asking "What does a tomato say?"

They particular joke is definitely pasta point of being entirely tasteless (just like most supermarket tomatoes).

We've been calling off-season commercially shipped lycopersicons "ballistic tomatoes" for so long that I don't remember how it started . . . .

Just dawned on me but if her grandmother is Aphrodite then Hephaestus is her grandfather by marriage, if not by blood. The old myths say Heph turned off everyone's toys until he got his choice for bride, that she had many children by other gods after she married Heph, but not if Heph fathered any spawn with her. So that makes her the grandchild of Heph's wife which is his under most jurisdictions' laws.
