Reminds me a bit of the situation in Diane Duane's "High Wizardry" when newly-inducted wizard Dairine snuck off (on what amounted to the start of her Ordeal) by opening a portal from a stall in a museum's rest room.

Her sister Nita and Nita's partner Kit had to shut down the portal afterwards. As Kit told their Advisors,

"Dairine went to Mars. And, she left the door open."

Does Pablo draw Pickle with the stamen eyes when there are a lot of girls who look similar to her human form because of his drawing style, or when Castela is slightly flummoxed by what's going on, or some of column A, some of slot B?

I think it's mostly when she's letting her human disguise slip a bit . . . frequently because she's flummoxed or discombobulated.

One who's only slightly more evil than I am, would agree that you have anthered the question correctly. Castela's eyes revert to their true form when the situation has her feeling pistil-whipped and without enough stamena to deal with it in human form. She's getting better at keeping up human form under stress, though... bractice makes perfect.
