And there's the pedipalps... hiding her face...

The healing can begin.

For both of them.

Not even the pedipalps can creep her out when there's a little girl who's hurting.

It seems Shelly has a maternal instinct after all.

I don't think Shelly has seen the pedipalps yet.

I also don't think it will matter.

She may not have seen 'em, but she's felt 'em ...

Take a look at Shelly's left arm and Digit's right pedipalp.

In panel four, the expression on Monica's face seems to be saying "Ah, so that's what caring about the feelings of another person looks like."

... or at least that's the joke I would be making if I believed Monica's absurd assertion that she's a sociopath.

Lower-level sensory input, so it likely hasn't registered, and/or Shelly thinks it's Digit's other right arm.

And I don't think it will matter anyway.

Take a look at Digit's left pedipalp and Shelly's Face (That's not Shelly's mouth).

Point, though Shelly could think it's just DIgit's hair.

Yep. She's putting words into action.

What amazes me is how thorough Fae magic can be.
That ring didn't just make Digit look human, it gave her human emotions and the ability to act them out, including crying.
The Fae are indeed nothing to trifle with.

Exactly. The latter example is precisely the one I was thinking of.

What she's just done... well, it's not as overtly heroic as tackling the Calendar Machine to save All Life As We Know It from another obliterating reset, nor as much of an obvious leap into the unknown as picking up The Artifact to help restore Jin's sanity and save the world from possible incineration, or as personal as telling Justin the truth about herself. Shelly was apprehensive about all of those, and still went ahead...

... but this time, she wasn't apprehensive. She was nigh-on paralyzed with panic. She fought her way through it, for the sake of a young girl she'd only just met.

What's it say, in the Talmud and the Quran? Something about "If you save one, it is as if you had saved the whole world."

The toughest battles we fight, are often within ourselves.

Big props for Shelly here.

I missed that.

Somewhere in all this is a joke about Shelly and Digit going for a mani-pedi, but I don't quite know how it goes...

Good.

Somewhere there's a joke with the punchline "Yeast is yeast and vest is vest, and never the mane shall tweet," but i don't know it.

'Tis for the best. History is full of extinct civilizations... and bad jokes are the reason some of them aren't around any longer. As G'Kaar said about the Centauri, "We can plow the remains of your cities under, and plant huge fields of flowers that spell out, in letters large enough to be seen from orbit, the words 'Too Annoying To Live'."

Although I say that as should not.
