It's the start of Baseball for 2017 and word has come along that the Oakland A's are going to name the grass at the Oakland Colosseum for the great Rickey Henderson.

Oakland's team btw originally came from Philadelphia Pennsylvania.
And while the team's name is Athletics, the mascot is a White Elephant.
(But I digress...)

Who is Rickey Henderson you ask?

A 12-time stolen base champion, Henderson led the league in runs five times. His 25-year career elevated Henderson to the top ten in several other categories, including career at bats, games, and outfield putouts and total chances. His high on-base percentage, power hitting, and stolen base and run totals made him one of the most dynamic players of his era. He was further known for his unquenchable passion for playing baseball and a buoyant, eccentric and quotable personality that both perplexed and entertained fans. Once asked if he thought Henderson was a future Hall of Famer, statistician Bill James replied, "If you could split him in two, you'd have two Hall of Famers."

He's been seen as being Cocky, but he'd be able to Walk the Walk, not just Talk...

Breaks Brock's Record:

(he stole four bases that day...)

At one point, the A's had three consecutive years w/ the Rookie of the Year in the line-up, and they had Rickey Henderson too boot.

I saw him break Brock's single season record in '82.
