It's... unsettling. Right now the crews over in Something Positive are better friends to each other than the Wapsi Square girls. It feels just wrong.
This is an incredibly unsettling thought.
I think it's also wrong, though. Pulling each other's chains does not disqualify a friendship from being both close and "good." Shelly in this exchange reminds me of an old college roommate with whom I had innumerable exchanges like this one. It didn't stop us from being exceptionally close friends, and in the long run, it did me some good. As for whether it did him comparable good ... well, he's become a zillionaire since then, and he still remains the same old Joe (not his real name), same snarkage, same smirk on occasions like this one, just with a few more digits in his net worth than most people. (It would be nice to see you again, you turkey. Fly one of those planes up here some time.)
"This? This is nothing. It's little, but that's how these things start...."
Next week, we'll get to see Shelly explain just how dangerous Monica has become. Pushing the Spirit Eject button may just be a nice side-effect of greater power, or step one on the road to possessing other people's bodies. To quote a favorite episode of Justice League Unlimited, where Superman gets jacked by Deadman:
Supes: "....The milkshakes there are so thick--" *Deadman takes control*
It's an old one i'm recycling - i have i-don't-know-how-many saved on my Gravatar page.

I'm with Greybeard.
Shelly's attitude is a sign of just how close she and Monica are, not a sign of separation.
This is the kind of bonding you need when things really hit the fan, and knowing what little I do of Paul we may yet see such a test.

M and Shell' have always been feeding on each other's whinyness/anxt. Shell states as much to Bud. Thát has significantly changed.
Shell' has been to Hell and back, and prolly thinks deep in herself that M's being a Drama-Queen again. There was no danger whatsoever. Yes, it was scary, but I feel it is álso meant as a bit of a wake-up call to M as to hów powerfull she is.
Júst telling her, has nèver worked for M. She's as stubborn as they get. Yes, she's been the mother-hen every now&then, but she has been shown to be pretty callous too here&there. Not out of malice, but just because she was too self-absorbed.
Shé was unwillingly thrown into the super-natural. Shé was fighting her demons. Shé was dealing with drunk golems etc etc. And she invariably, continually, incessantly rubbed the other casts' faces into that.
The tables have turned a bit. And Shelly being Shelly is, basically, stating without a word :" well now, how does it feel to be thrust in the middle of it, like I was.. 18000+ years of banishment, for involuntarily getting involved in the supernatural.
You, Monica, are not the only one in that boat."
Shelly álso realizes, whatèver she says, M is gonna be fuming. So, it's better to let it commence on it's own.
Monica realizes that too, given her last statement. M has always considered herself a form of "The voice of reason" while in her book, Shelly was a loose cannon. Tables have turned.
(By the way, the ónly one who has shown a fair bit of spontaneous, instinctual protectiveness towards M, is Tina. "wormholes?? Get them away from Sunshine" rememer thát one?. Bud's protectiveness is more of a "job-description" thing, me thinks, despite being clearly fond of M )
but, why 42?

It has just occurred to me that Shelly seems to have come to terms with the fact that she does not have a noticeable expiration date. Last time we saw her in the Library she was a bit distressed about it . Maybe part of that is knowing that she wont be loosing Monica as a friend for quite a few eonshere.
