*grins*

So, what do you want to bet this will lead in to Atsali telling Nadette a little of her past?
Or maybe it'll just be a cute interlude.

Oh, I bet it'll be the former.

And when she gets to Thana's picture... well, things will probably come into focus.

Telling Nadette the story of her childhood could be a lead-up to establish the basis for the greeting for which this young Siren will forever be remembered.

Hello.
My name is Atsali Sirena.
You killed my parents.
Prepare to die.

Foxglove may have taken care of some of the guilty... but perhaps not all.

Wait ... How is it she has full human form at that age? She should be incapable of knowingly morph into human form. Neither of her parents were human, so she should look like them in their natural state. Shelly had a reason to look human without even trying because one of her parents was human. Before puberty and excess boobatude burst forth, Atsali had, at the least, bird legs. Literally. Even wings. I would think these things would be manifest at infancy and toddler stage as well.

This has been pondered by us in the Extended Wapsiverse, believe it or not. The proposition is that the parents leave their "human" scent with their child, resulting in them realizing their human "form" should be their normal state.

Talisman. Not as an amulet, but as a child-friendly bracelet or anklet. Would be a logical way for full-para parents to 'cloak' their child's heritage from the mundanes.
Of course, JW's theory also works.

That was another theory, but the scent thing may have been the first thing before a talisman.

Also possible that the first change doesnt come till the onset of puberty.

It is starting out as fun and a little embarrassing... I get a bad feeling this is going to devolve into having to relive parts of her past that Atsali has probably buried and locked away. Little good will come of this... but I suppose it has to come out sooner or later...

Adorable.

Hmmm.... Is it just me or does baby Atsali seem to have trouble pointing both eyes in the same direction?
It would explain the corrective lenses.

What, you want Siren mothers to have to give birth to 20 lb babies with wings and claws? Geez!

I suspect human form is the default birth form for many paranormals. Not mermaids, they'd have to be born with tails and gills and able to swim. And maybe not ursamorphs, they being able to change at will. But where environmental factors don't enter in, in a largely human world, human form might be best. And those species that don't take that form automatically have to learn how to do it, later.

I wonder how Pickle was coaxed into taking human shape. That may be a relatively recent development. First she learned how to communicate with humans - which in itself must have been interesting - and then how to twist and coil her viney body into a more humanoid shape.

One hopes that it involved example and persuasion, and not topiary or bonsai.

It does look that way...

Meanwhile, we now have confirmation that Atsali's hair has been defying gravity for a long, long time...

Better than Sea Monkeys! Better than Chia Pets! Call before midnight tonight and get your very own Para Bonsai! Fun for the whole family, or at least the survivors! Easy to maintain, delightful to look at, and great at parties! Just remember:
  • 1) Keep them away from bright light,
    2) Don't get them too wet, and
    3) Never, never ever feed after midnight.
P.S. - For additional safety, do not taunt Happy Fun Ball Bonsai.
