And unfortunately, a lion can tear you to shreds even if you have no stick.

To quote my mother, by way of a story she wrote:

"There are those who lose all respect for lions unless, upon meeting one, they are devoured instantly. You can't please some people."

Well good. She put it flat out there. No farting around.

Ow. Whiplash. That is one of the quickest scene changes we've seen. Bang two weeks in the past and then blip back into the present. My neck hurts.

When i was about five, my grandparents took me to the Cleveland Zoo.

Granddad leaned over the barrier, and managed to grab the tail of a lion that was lying near the front of the cage with its tail hanging out, and yank it.

The lion ignored him.

Stereo Review used to run three or four cartoons by Rodrigues in every issue. Often, they would have some relationship to whatever was the main story in the issue.

Way back when, before portable cassette recorders were even minimally acceptable as hi-fi recorders, SR did an article on field recording - battery-powered reel-to-real recorders, mainly. One of Rodrigues' cartoons for that issue showed a guy r-to-r recorder on a strap hung over his shoulder, mike on a long stick and pea-shooter at the ready, just outside the cage where a lion lay peacefully sleeping...

Shelly already did that so why add more. Though Shelly has no reason at all to try and claim credit for that incident. True her anger ran hot but she had cause. Lot's of cause. Bia is mostly to blame and the callous way she just dropped the information without even trying to find out what the situation was.

Both of them are trying to grab blame and they shouldn't.

Monica has been hanging out with Lions who are sentient, know their strength, and have been careful not to obliterate her with a thought. And she just realized what would happen if one of them forgot, or worse she ran across one who didn't care and was feeling malicious - that could easily have been a "Steve Irwin Moment..." Crikey.

Yeah, that would be just a tad sobering.

I guess it's a matter of individual perception. To me, this is one of the milder transitions.

Well, at least the dialog has started. The more they talk it out, the more they figure it out. By the time this convo finishes, they should be back where they should be, and ready to do their thing where Bia is concerned. Never should have involved the Comanches in this whole mess, we'll fight dirty when we have to.

I dunno. Who should M be more afraid of? Phix and Shell in a bad mood, ór hersélf.....

I mean..she commands Golems.. planetary system- and Sun-squashing golems.. plús the teensy fact that she's a very astute "self-preservation-panic-poiter" Who says that she's not able to -in a state of total panic- instinctively poit a Sphinx' head to a different place than the body.

I guess M has one of her bouts of "anxt" .I wouldn't be surprised to see "fear"and "doubt" lurking in the background.

(PS.. I get a very comical picture of Shelly, now officially a Sphinx, áctually seeing M's demons and flipping for a bit, stating "Thát's what You have lurking inside?????? And You are afraid of me???????)

Respect. I think Monica may be working up an apology to Phix. Maybe to Shelly as well. She hasn't respected Phix nearly as much as she should have, given Phix's greater life experience, wisdom, status, etc. She treated her like one of the girls too often. She's even been a brat to her, as well as, a stern judge. It's dawning on her that Phix never was just a another friend. The relationship between Phix and Monica is more of an adult to a child. Monica is a toddler compared to Phix. Compared to Shelly for that matter. Shelly may want her old relationship with Monica back, but to Monica that can never be. Shelly is actually a sphinx. Just that she is in human form for the moment, and she has been a sphinx over 3,000 times longer than she has been a human. I believe there will be a meeting somewhere in the middle between Monica and Phix, with Phix being more open about who she is and how she really feels. Much the same with Shelly and Phix, and Shelly and Monica. All in all, Shelly should already have more of an affinity with Phix than anyone, largely due to her 80,000 year existence as a bona-fide sage-worthy sphinx.

Now that Monica's been forced to see the reality of the world she actually lives in and the abilities of those around her, hopefully she'll start to explore her talents and grow into her own.

THIS. Based on what we've been told and shown, Monica's just as big a threat as these lions, even if she doesn't realize it yet. She's virtually untouchable outside of minor scrapes and bruises or self-inflicted wounds, she has 3 (if not 5) golems capable of planetary destruction and MASSIVE manipulation (given what Brandi and Jin have done in the past), and the ability to directly commune with the demon realm and its denizens. To say nothing of her support group (considering every immortal she's encountered has befriended her up to this point and would possibly go to bat for Monica, sans maybe Creepy Little Girl).

Monica may look and act more timid, but if she actually snapped, she may give a Titan a run for its money.

Monica commands Golems. Golems make the Incredible Hulk look like a little jealous girl.

Bia is a titan, most of Wapsi's supernatural cast are very VERY powerful, (but no-where near Titan powerful except maybe Shelly) yet, I cannot help but imagine this scene: Image

every time the issue of golem vs ANY of the wapsi cast comes up.

Monica is far more powerful in the world of Wapsi than she is willing to admit, although her nightmares after she DOES realize it should be interesting.

I could see that reaction from Bud, definitely. Jin and Maya seem a bit more conniving. Tepoz pretty much has to rely on sedation.

Brandi... if the provoking instance involves possible harm to Bud, you'll be lucky if that's all she does.

Heheh.. Thát particular scene is very véry satisfying to watch.
As a Marvelite-of-old, Loki always annoyed me to nó end. Even 'Na`stirh didn't p.ss me off as much as him. Impressive that the writers and pencilers could create such a revolting character out of "Marvelized"Norse mythology.

I álways wondered what would happen if The Hulk ended-up in valhalla..

As always, the more I think about a week's comics, the more I'm impressed with Paul's characterization skills. We're getting good, deep looks into a few characters here, and they're all completely unique. Bravo!
