And Pickle did well at maintaining shape . . . until she got bloodthirsty!

I knew it was Castela, but it took me a minute to focus on the change and its significance.

Considering that she was up against mostly bronies (apparently, I'm spelling that right, and autocorkboard recognized it) in the store, that was an impressive feat.

Bet none of them could have kicked Tsillah's mother's head off, though.

...OH.
So THAT'S the reason why he put the comic up early.
He's getting to be aged.

Why, Atsali! What wicked elbows you have!
Well, this certainly puts all kinds of new depth to her character. Before, any violence was a result of self-defense and instinct... Now we find out she is capable of instigating it... And apparently is rather good at it too!

I wonder about the coach's ethics, too. Feeding an obvious addiction to "crystal" as a means of recruiting a "fighter" for the school team.
May the gods help him (or her) if the strategy is a success. At the end of a couple of seasons, Atsali's room is going to be stacked high with glass ponies. One bump, a terrible crash, and Atsali will be in the hospital covered with cuts and full of slivers of crystal.
I would not want to be the coach, when Momma Bear puts two and two together, and arrives at the school with blood in her eye.

Why? Did Katherine get (will have gotten?) slivers of crystal in her eye from taking Atsali to the hospital?
Meanwhile, I just love the look of determination on Atsali's face, in that second panel...

Atsali apparently has eye protection, but the other girl doesn't...

Atsali needs corrective lenses- contacts won't cut it in field hockey, nor will her regular cheaters. Those are sports frames

'Blood in her eye'- 'seeing red'- 'her eyes went red'... usually means somebody's in deep do do, 'cause Momma's on the warpath. Annie's eyes actually go red when she's angry, and things get a little ... touchy... until she calms down.
The trick is don't make her angry.

I'm guessing you missed the tongue sticking out, right below that statement of mine... English may not be my first language, but I'm still quite familiar with it.
So, you're saying that when Annie gets angry, she likes to touch you a lot?

And in other news, I remember seeing the field hockey girls back in high school walking off various bloody bust-ups to legs and face with nary a tear. Football has nothing on guts vs field hockey.

I beg to differ regarding football: there's a reason they wear armor. It's so they don't die.
The pads cut down a lot on external injuries, yes, and they also reduce internal injuries... To a point. It's not like they aren't at risk for grevious bodily harm.
Yes, I've played football. Yes, it was hell. No, I don't want to do it again.
Lack of safety equipment doesn't make the sport more brutal. It just means the players and rulemakers are more foolhardy to the inherent risks.
I have also played soccer. The main reason soccer players don't wear heavy armor? They do a lot more running and turning, from my experience. I still probably wouldn't have minded at least something a little more extensive than a cup and a couple shin guards, though.
