There's a few different types of horns. True horns, which have a simple keratin sheath over them and a boney core (Bovidae and horned lizards). Cutaneous, "horns" made from modified skin or scales (chameleons, some humans). Pellage, "horns" made from a grouping of specialized stiffened hairs (rhinos). Chitinous horns, horn-like protrusions found on the exoskeletons of some arthropods. And last, but not least, ossicones; boney protuberances with skin covering them (giraffes and some golden jackals).

Atsali likely has ossicones from the looks of it.


EDIT:I forgot to include the weirdness that is pronghorn horns. they're like a mix of true horns and antlers. There's an unbranching boney core, but the keratinous sheath has branches in it.

I would have thought the horns would have suggested Thana to Atsali's mind. Maybe that's coming.
