That is the most hilarious face I've ever seen Pickle pull. And what makes it even better is it might not even be artistic exaggeration, because Pickle really can do that with her eye cavities.
And that level of frustration is all too familiar...
I remember trying to get my truck started one time, and it steadfastly refused to do so. Several buddies of mine, including one pro mechanic, a few rednecks, and two handymen, tried for days to get that stubborn thing to start. And the worst part was when it would come soooo close to firing up. So close! But not quite.
When that happened, pretty much everyone ended up losing their command of the English language and we had to resort to caveman grunts and groans to fully convey the level of frustration we were feeling.

"OH MY GOD. SERIOUSLY? Wha... I... But... It was... It... Myaaagh! Argh! Blaag! GRRRR! Ugh..."

You know, the one person that would be immediately helpful in working out what's happening is Atsali.
If they could get her to focus on trying to work out (a) what exactly happened and (b) coming up with plausible hypothesises I suspect she'd come up with some useful ideas.
Probably wrong ideas, and there is a 50/50 chance her and Castela start fighting again :p, but this is the kind of 'odd' Atsali can work her mind around.

Especially if she can still access the Lanthian knowledge that tore through her brain. Those crazy buggers might have some clue as to what's going on too.

With the possible exception of Oedipal complexes.

I suspect that Castela's background will be becoming one of the major plotlines, and that we'll be seeing Atsali & Co. heavily involved in working out what's going on with the Whatsit.

"Ah, I see that mankind has rediscovered the old Lanthian apple-corer mechanism! Now all that we need is three hundred tons of enriched plutonium and a couple of pulsars, and we can make the matching peeler!"

Castella can do what most can't,
(Besides her unspeakable rant)
she can, so I hear
make her toys disappear
She's such a remarkable plant-

Oh, great. The last time they tried that, they aimed it wrong, ended up peeling off part of 4-Vesta, and we've
still got meteoric debris from that incident falling on our heads occasionally.

She and her toys, together, could make a record album: "The de-Vine miss 'em." Bette it'd be a good seller.
(Places a Dynavector Ruby phono cartridge into the Pun Jar).

Good move Kath... Calm the little weed down before she totally freaks... once calm, you can talk her through what happened keeping things calm. Poor Kath knows she's way out of her league... but she's continually coming out on top.

Now, the $64,000 Question: What does Kath do next? I'm betting she visits the Bibliothiki in order to do a bit of research.
