It may have come from way out in left field but it flew like a laser over home plate.

Y'know how in some comics, characters will get an asterisk, or a "hollow" asterisk (like a popped bubble?) over their head when something clicks into place in their mind?
I couldn't help but imagine that over Atsali. She's been having those moments a lot lately.

It's possible that some deep wisdom is inherited more directly among the Blackthorn, than is the case among humans? Possibly she was grown from a cutting, rather than from a seed, and thus in some sense could be part of something much older than her child's form implies?Thor wrote:Sometimes, she's just a little too smart for her years...like's she's secretly a 600-year-old bush in the shape of a child.

I do agree, Castela is going farther than "Kids say the darndest things" would normally allow. But then again, she was not only an orphan, but she's unique even in the paranormal world, and she's had to deal with people saying her parents threw her away or she was taken away and the fact that she has killed at least one sentient being. Granted, she didn't know said being was capable of crying and whatnot, but still. She's had more than her fair share of grimdark crap in her life.

Not the first time we've had hints that she doesn't necessarily fit the curve written down in the usual Child Development and Psychology textbooks.GlytchMeister wrote:I do agree, Castela is going farther than "Kids say the darndest things" would normally allow. A cutting from a bush, perhaps, from a certain forest in time?Dave wrote: It's possible that some deep wisdom is inherited more directly among the Blackthorn, than is the case among humans? Maybe matchmaker in a friendship sense, not necessarily romantic. Petal-pusher knows Nadette is good for her sister, any which way. Her Wisdom comes into play, which trumps knowledge and foresight in this case.Thor wrote:Pickle's playing matchmaker because she wants to save big sister's yelling all for herself!AnotherFairportfan wrote:Well, that kinda came outta left field...

Remember too that Nadette had a conversation right before the Corn Husk Maiden attack. I'm sure we didn't see all over the conversation, but I am sure that Nadette spared our favorite lil stinkweed the sordid details.kingklash wrote:Maybe matchmaker in a friendship sense, not necessarily romantic. It was stated that the Humans were trying to experiment on the Blackthorns. Gene splicing human cells onto a Blackthorn to result in an anamorphized human/plant hybrid could be what we are seeing here. She has the learning and knowledge of the plant side but forced into human sorta form. Could be nothing is stopping her from being what ever age she wants to be.Dave wrote:Very interesting thought you have there!jwhouk wrote:A cutting from a bush, perhaps, from a certain forest in time?

It's sort of like setting bones. You have to do it, one at a time, for it all to work.GlytchMeister wrote:Y'know how in some comics, characters will get an asterisk, or a "hollow" asterisk (like a popped bubble?) over their head when something clicks into place in their mind?
