It's way too soon to know whether you "got it right" -- in whole or in parts.

We have a flashback, an olfactory report from Pickle, and Atsali's decidedly non-objective recounting of a small fraction of the big picture.

It's like trying to determine the size and shape of a jigsaw puzzle from three middle pieces and an edge.

Just give them some Lapsang Souchong to go with it.(It's in the Adagio tea Sherlock blend I'm drinking).
:o  :? And have this playing in the background, I suppose?

And now, at long last, we have an explanation for http://wapsisquare.com/comic/fellow-explorer/
In other words Atsali is in pursuit of escape.

This actually. On vinyl. I was listening to Saturnine, Martial, and Lunatic earlier, and it has a song you might consider relevant to the topic.
Yanno how some people have Angels/Devils for a conscience? I have a Dark Elf ShadowKnight and a Half Elf Ranger for mine. The really bad part is when they agree on something.

Bingo.

Though there's one other thing about that - she got lost in books. Someone else in the strip (with a similar bustline) did the same thing.

Humm, Horngirl is Stali's BFF. Both girls are singing silly love songs to each other but since she is going through puberty sirens powers activate, (we have seen this can happen with boobs appearing overnight). Horngirl pledges unending love but Stali thinks is still all in fun all playing. Things get a little carried away with a bit of experimentation going on. More talking about boys go on only now Horngil has unending love programed into her brain. A few more silly songs sung but this time with one about dieing involved thus more programing. Stali assure her they are BFF's. Horngirl interprets this as rejecting of lover status. this combined with orphan status (see pickles fae meltdown at the school) causes Horngirl to decide she can not handle any more rejection and the death is the only answer.

I think that Horn Girl was getting a bit too close to Atsali, and that Pickle wasn't getting enough attention, so Pickle strangled Horn Girl and made it look like a suicide.

What? It's not based on any less evidence than the rest of the theories posted on this thread.

Thorn marks, Thor... thorn marks. Pickle's not old enough to understand "hide the evidence"

I'm just going to sit back, finish my last Fat Tire for the evening, do what it takes to make the dog's tail wag (ear rub works well), and see what happens tomorrow.

As the Grateful Dead sang, "...what a long, strange trip it's been".

How many here are worried that Pablo is about to do a Kevin with our bear girl?

No, more along the lines of "Put On A Bus".

Even before tonight, I figured that if there was anyone who could get Atsali to "snap out of it", it'd be Nadette.

Jin.

Atsali is pushing close people away so she can't hurt them.

Sound familiar? Jin is basically the local expert on this kind of behavior. Right now, my money's on Jin getting Atsali's poor messed up brain straightened out, or at least being directly involved in that process.
I think this might be a reason Jin ended up being Atsali's Mentor. Maybe Atsali knew what she was doing, somewhere deep in her own mind, and that part of her sought out Jin.
Also, plot convenience, but that's beside the point.

I maintain Kevin is still close by, circling the neighborhood in a slow taxi.
