LINKY

And now it's official. Atsali bats for both teams.

She's completely impervious to flirting, passes, and people jumping up and down and waving, but she likes both sides.

Okay, Nadette. The situation has been laid out to you. You simply need to state your case C-L-E-A-R-L-Y, and then wait for a thumbs-up or a thumbs-down.

For the love of Pete! Put an end to this comedy of errors! There's only so much teasing the readers can take!

*scream of frustration into pillow*

This is the biggest Sheldon Cooper moment I've ever been witness to.

Yes, dear - you ARE missing a social cue.

Next, we find out Dietzel likes both dogs and cats. And all those relationship diagrams will suddenly become portraits of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

(My autocomplete actually anticipated the word "monster")

If Nadette actually manages to get her point across (which I will assume for the moment is "I want to be your girlfriend and have for quite some time now") I wonder how long it will take Atsali's mind to process it? And once she does, how long it will take her to retroactively recontextualize the whole "emergency jumpsuit" incident? And then how will she react to it once she figures out exactly how "close" they've been already?

Nadette: "Hello, Acme Supply? I need a clue-by-four, Saturn V size."

  • "The place where I come from is a small town
    They think so small
    They use small words
    But not me
    I'm smarter than that
    I worked it out
    I've been stretching my mouth
To let those big words come right out"
Well, good luck with that, darlin!

Kind of hard to call it "bi the way" when she's so direct about it.

And Nadette swings the clue by four... and misses... again! What is that? Strike five? Six?

I know what Atsali said... but is it what she means contextually? Even if it is, I still don't think Atsali is getting the full gist of what Nadette is saying. This is the worst place Nadette could be having this conversation. If she decides to tee the ball up and take a huge swing and kiss Atsali, or tell Atsali that she loves and wants her, Katherine stands to chance hearing or walking in on the conversation... or worse... Pickle, who will immediately blow everything out of proportion.

I'ts been said that sirens and incubi perceive attraction differently. It may be their species instinctive weapon. They naturally shrug off feelings of lust, love, desire or attraction from others while overwhelming their opponent by inducing these same feelings.
Sali seems to respond to physical or mental interactions with physical arousal but not with lust. Her mind stays clear.
She seems to want friendship, belonging, made to feel special like all her friends.
She gets embarrassed by her physical arousal or making social mistakes.
Most people have an overlapping continuum of friendly like, to romantic love, to physical arousal.
Maybe sirens and incubi experience friendly like and physical arousal but they do not connect the two experiences.
Sirens seem to be capable of love, but it is very well guarded by their instincts.

So that's my theory which will most likely be proven wrong by comic tomorrow.

I hope you've got "Unresolved Sexual Tension" and "Will They or Won't They?" On there too.

She isn't so much as missing as the Clue by four is bouncing off Atsali's remarkably thick skull (considering Atsali has hollow bones) with a dull thud.
Nadette needs to pound a dozen or so roofing nails through that Clue by four to make it stick.

And I swear, if Pickle walks in and delays this for another week, I won't be able to decide if she's cute or annoying. Katherine, I'm thinking would delay it a maximum of three days. She might also get the "they need privacy" vibe and retreat before she screws things up:

Nadette leaned in. "Atsali, I'm not sure you're getting thi-"
Katherine's head appeared in the door. "Hon, could you help me with the... Dishes... You know what, I've got them. I'll be downstairs, making lots of noise and running the water noisily."
Atsali: :|
Nadette: "Phew..."

"Negative - Negative. The Clue-ton torpedoes just impacted on the surface."

"Red five, get ready to make your run."

I think this may require a power point presentation.

OK, jokes aside, there is something going on here. Every time Atsali has had it in her face, whether it's her "best friend" starting to make out with her, or an adult explaining that her best friend wants to make out with her, she gets a distracted look. Like there is something shiny, just over there, at just that instant, that distracts her from what is said. She was in a room, with adults talking about the "situation", right there in front of her, and she was staring off into space with a bemused smile, like she was seeing "all the pretty colors".

I have speculated before that this is some kind of defense mechanism. But, I am wondering if this is a side affect of the seer thing. Nadette might be going through a kind of Cassandra effect.

Sort of shifting gears, but not really. Why is it so important for the Mer girl, that Atsali not blame her for goat boy hooking up with her brother? And, for that matter, how would Atsali even come to such a conclusion? I have a guess. And Nadette won't like it. No, this isn't an all girl on girl thing, but let's say that the paranormal community is more open to flexibility. And, someone has another campaign in mind to get with Atsali.

So, if the Mer girl (no I don't recall her name, and I'm not going to go look right now) comes on to Atsali, it will be telling, one way or another. If bird girl gets that blank look, and says "what were we talking about?", then there is something in her head preventing her from seeing what's in front of her. If, however, she gets what's going on, then we know Nadette is being blocked somehow.
