Windows 9 is Windows 10

Wonder why they skipped 9?

"Number nine ... number nine ... number nine ..."

For the sake of our discussions about numbers, I contribute a specific number from a different kind of jar, to the Pun Jar.

Actually, that's rather tame, and somewhat amusing... not what you'd expect...

That is a surprisingly difficult song to perform for more than a few bars.

Harken back to yesteryear, when Microsoft tried to merge all of it's best products into one overwhelming superior upgrade:

Indeed; one needs to re-tune the instrument almost constantly.

I wonder if Microsoft will use roman numerals as part of the product name?

That does not become truly funny in the U.S. until Windows 30 comes out.

Of course that could be why they decided to skip Win9. The roman numeral designation would be IX which would be pronounced in English as ICKS or ˈɪks.. That would leave people with a bad taste. (Putting a collection of original Dune novels in the Pun Jar).

I miss WinME. The logon sound had notes that reminded me of the intro for ST:TNG. Luckily I have the logon/off sounds (and wallpapers) for every version of Windows through 7 saved.

The older versions of MacOS didn't have a native shutdown-sound capability, but you could add one via a third-party INIT. The Macintosh II was one of the very first computers whose power supply had a "soft" on/off circuit rather than a big "hard" toggle switch, and could turn itself off at shutdown time.

For a while, I had my Mac IIfx set to shut down using a sound clip from the finale of the opera "Faust", where the protagonist is dragged down to Hell to pay his side of the bargain he made with the Devil. It was a wonderful, descending tenor wail... "AAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaggggh!"... then *click* and the lights all go out.

40 MHz processor (Apple called it "wicked-fast"), 5 megs of DRAM. I swear, when running WriteNow, it was still more responsive than Word running on a 2 GHz 4 GB system today.

The joys of simple programing have been lost in the modern world.

Downloaded it, burned it and it wouldn't install on the partition i wanted to, because it was on an MBR drive.

I've got a Seagate drive i (mostly) retired because it got somewhat unreliable that i'm gonna reformat to GPT and put it there; i'll be triple-booting Windows 7 and 20 and Xubuntu...

I hope.

Downloaded, installed in VirtualBox - uninstalled from VirtualBox - resolved to see if i could stockpile a couple of Windows 7 OEM licenses for future machines.

I do NOT wish to use an OS that requires me to sign in to my own computer using an online account.

It's still ugly, even though its mama doesn't dress it QUITE so funny as W8.

It's got that damned "ribbon" interface.

Gone gone gone...

The odds are there's a way around that. I know it wasn't really obvious how to get around it in Win8.

I am occasionally in places where I have no internet connection. Yeah, I can use my smartphone (in fact I'm doing so right now), but that only works in places with cell-phone service.
