And, depending on your point of view, mankind either:

Exterminated a voracious pest whose flocks in the 100s of thousands could strip a wheat field clean in an hour, leaving the farmers to starve,

or,

We owe it to posterity to try and recover and reintroduce this artifact of American posterity to the wild once again using modern DNA techniques, and let it find it's place in today's eco-system.

Hint: Sparrow, starling, gypsy moth, African honey bee, the lampry, Asian carp, potato beetle, boll weevil.....
