I think Lily has been alone much more than was good for her.

I third the motion. And I'll add, without proof, since I didn't speak up on it before now, that I kind of expected a hug to come next.

I agree with you but your pronunciation of her name is not how she pronounces it. She told Monica that it is pronounced Ariel (Just not spelled funny)
If you look at the name carefully you can see how she sees the pronunciation from her southern drawl Eur (your) Y (ee) Ale (ale) (Your-Ee-Ale)

I don't think it is the loss in the past right now. Lily has had millennia to adjust to the loss of her children, family, and civil environment. She died alone and became a vampire, developing the mental armor to protect herself and help others in the same position.
What's happened is that all her armor has been shattered by the knowledge that one of her children has survived. Katherine is NOT just 1/6 her child, she is all her child. One of four it is true (the other three having been allegedly drowned in the ocean), but the fourth was combined with the other 6 quadruplets into one baby, held in stasis, and eventually rescued and allowed to grow up and live as an individual. That Katherine is equally the daughter of five other women is immaterial right now, they are not here and are by all accounts dead. Lily is alive and has the same claim as they would, Katherine is 100% her daughter.
So now faced with a living daughter, a descendent, a blood connection to life and the living world (and one who has already adopted children of her own), all of the defenses Lily's erected against her emotions concerning the way she perished and her continued existence as a vampire are out the window. Basically, the clinch pins of her self identity are at stake.

She needs to establish some sort of more stable relationship with Katherine, although I don't know what sort it could be at this stage of things.

I think its coming to. That drawing of a teenage pickle showed signs at lest in my eyes of granny's influence.

I know that Taz is correct in the pronunciation from the Greek but this is her personal pronunciation and a person can legitimately say that their name is pronounced "Smith" when it is spelled "Ghoti" so artistic license is not needed here.

Only way to top this hug is for Katherine to take over.

No matter how long you have you never recover completely from the loss. Trying to say one survived only makes you more aware of the ones you lost. You can blame others, know it is not your fault, but it still hurts and will always hurt.
Lily may have covered it with scar tissue but recent events opened it again.

I did point this complication out yesterday. It is the total loss and the anger and pain from 5000 years ago coming to the surface. Maybe finally to be faced, dealt with,m and come to some sort of terms she can live with it. Or this may be too much for Lily and she just gives up and fades away. I hope not.

That's what I was thinking, myself. I can picture Pratt and McBride at Katherine's doorstep, with Suzie starting to rattle off some explanation for being there, while Lily just breaks down and hugs Katherine in the biggest, strongest hug she's ever had. The hug may or may not be reciprocated right away.

In fact, I don't think it would be good for either one to willfully and actively ignore each other for long.

Bikini Hugs are always good.
