Monica opens up by setting the ground rules and telling Cricket what she needs to hear. She's pretty much throwing Callista's fears right back in her face and establishing what will happen if she ever does step that far out of line.

It's unpleasant, but it has to be done.

Cricket, I don't think that you're in the school cafeteria anymore. Physically perhaps, but intellectually and spiritually elsewhere with one angry Jaguar Girl. Or should that be Grrrl!?

That last panel reminded me of that bad Godzilla movie a few years back. You thought the guy was getting crushed...but Godzilla lifts his foot to reveal the photographer standing Between the Creatures toes. The only cool part of the movie.

FIRST: Scare the poo out of them.

SECOND: Make Extremely Dangerous Noises based on their Worst Fears.

THIRD: Take a swipe that Just Misses

FOURTH: Change back to kindly Aunt Monica to explain to Atsali why her new friend is cricket-sized and curled up in a fetal ball on the floor...

I guess M pulled Cricket in her realm for the first bit of the shock-therapy, and we are back in the cafetaria..

Given Monica's history and what Callista has done, and WANTED to do, I really don't think Monica is going to cut her much slack at all.

No jokes. No "I was just kidding"s, no "you're alright kid"s. No, I think our Jaguar girl is about to lay down the law in no uncertain terms and let the fae princess know that the leash is short and there isn't much slack at all. Phix took the soft approach with Shelly and Monica when they were "just human" and was gentle and kind. Once M and Shelly became Apex supernaturals and started doing things that put others at risk, she lowered the boom. It was effective with them because even with their drastic increase in personal power, they are still basically good people. Callista is fae, and they apparently have a well deserved reputation for being sociopathic @$$holes with hair triggers. Maybe Callista is being judged for the actions of her whole race, but her confession to Atsali and the Bear Twins seems to support the general view of the fae.

As I said yesterday, I think the only reason Cricket is still around and not bound in Tartarus or dead, is because she didn't follow through with her revenge fantasy. Monica probably feels that because she couldn't bring herself to do that to actual living beings and instead used gossamer duplicates to simulate it, Cricket may be someone worth saving.

But if she crosses that line...well...we've seen what the Jaguar Girl does to rapists.
