Spiders are bad enough but It would be more disturbing if she was eating fried crickets.

As I proved to myself in Thailand, I'll eat a bug. But not if I have to take more than one bite...

I can attest that fried tarantula tastes rather like fried shrimp. Not surprising, really.
Here's me in Cambodia, about six months ago... with our mid-morning snack.

During a Missions Dinner, at my church, people had brought food they had made, from their ethnic background. I had to opportunity to eat a caterpillar in peanut butter sauce... didn't care too much for the sauce, but the caterpillar was good... (Unlike Gahg, however, these were not live...

)
Can't help but wonder: did Calista pull this from her own brown bag, or from Atsali's? (In other words, is she either showing off and/or trying to disgust Atsali, or approving of Atsali's meal choices?)
After all, with Katherine as a mom, she very well could have had a fried spider as a snack...

No doubt it helps the flavor that they were very fresh.
Chocolate covered ants used to be a favorite "gag" food back in high school. A local deli sold those ... and crickets if I remember correctly, but that was a long, long time ago.

Indeed. There's nothing worse than half-dead racht.

Sadly, not everyone is sufficiently enlightened about the delights of insect cuisine even though some folks are
crazy about it.

Wait..."glamor"?
I always assumed that the various supernaturals were actually changing size and shape to their human form, not just putting on an illusion.
Does this mean that Cricket is actually still only 6 inches tall, but appears to be 5 feet? And if that's so, does that mean the fried spider is actually garden spider sized instead of tarantula?
It can't all be glamor, since when Shelly changes size and shape into her "true" form she actually bangs her head on the ceiling.
The only other explanation is that Paul T. is using the word in a non-standard way that is specific to his universe.

And when Heather-Mermaid lost control in the pool, changing from legs to tail ripped her suit.
And Phix presumably can change to fully human size and shape, since she was apparently able to make a baby with a human.

Why assume that all paranormals emulate the form of basic humanity in the same way?

Derp, indeed!
Where the (bleep) (bleep) (bleep) (bleep) (bleepity Bleep Bleep BLEEP!!) do you get spiders THAT big??? Even Australian spiders don't have bodies that thick, they're more leg! Where-ever there are spiders like that, *I* don't want to go there!!!
And does that look like the spider from Kath and Atsali's Big Adventure to anyone else?
Cricket seems to have a tendency to talk over Atsali's sentences. She's aggressive in speech as well as action. This could be trouble.

Depends on the individual. Some are shape changers, like the bears who. Some form the appearance, like Pickle. Some use mental powers to cause others to see them that way. Some use magic, like Nudge. So there are many ways for one of them to shape change. There are also many who cannot.
Glamor has an interesting means, especially with the Fae. One meaning is a magic spell to present a different appearance to others. The meaning I think applies to the Fae best is:
"An air of compelling charm, romance, and excitement, especially when delusively alluring."
That is so how the Fae operate.
As to real size, we don't know which is Crickets real form. The 5 inch might be her real form, but it might also be an image she projects for some reason. Today's strip implies this size is the real one. If she used an illusion she would not be able to move the chair with her hand as an illusion has not solid substance. Unless she changed size first and then added the glamor to hide her fae appearance. The school rules do require them to take human form during school ours.

SPiders that size? That is rather small compared to the Giant Huntsman spider...
